Completely untrue, I have Vista Home Premium running sweet as a nut on 512mb RAM, with a Pentium 4 Processor 2.4ghz .
It runs Aero with ease.
EDIT :
Those who give a thumbs down are obviuosly hacked off as theyve most likely gone out and bought new PC's.
Either that or their PC is infected by spyware because they dont look after it properly.
Dont listen to the doom mongers when it comes to Vista, many of them dont know what the hell they are talking about.
XP is very much becoming yesterdays operating system.
So lets appriciate Vista, as many of these boneheads havent a clue what it used to be like back in the DOS days, not that I miss them of course, my point is they just wouldnt understand the concept.
And YES you can run Vista on 512mb RAM as I stated earlier, just as long as your Graphics and Processor are up to it.
To check this out go to Vista Upgrade Advisor.

Hope some of this has been of some help.
At the very least Ive managed to make my point, however controversial it may be in some eyes.

You do need all the ram your computer can handle because Vista is a memory hog. I use vista on my home computer xp at work. I originally had 1gb of ram and it ran fine and even did all the cool effects. But was able to play more games with the upgrade to 2gb, running vista on a laptop. For a desktop would suggest at least 4gb. Try www.newegg.com their prices are really cheap for memory. Goodluck.

As you had mentioned while ago, the minimum system requirements of windows vista is 512mb either 32 or 64 bit edition but the 512mb of Physical memory is for encoding purposes only, not for gaming or other software editors, you can try surfing and browsing but it is too slow. 1gb of physical memory is the actual and medium or rated as a good physical memory in order to avoid some conflicts or system malfunctions, but the recommended RAM is 2GB of physical memory for all in one multimedia purposes and it is rated as the best or the appropriate one.

The problem with Micosoft's listed system requirements is that it doesn't take into account all the other things that you need for your computer.
It's important to note that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc) and malware all compete for system resources.
I agree, the more RAM the better. Even your graphics card needs to reserve RAM.

The more RAM the smoother your system will run, but 1GB will be enough to run it smoothly in Aero. Cause that what I have right now.

it would probably run very nice.
but, i would not get vista just yet, because of all the bugs it has and it don't come with a service pack yet. I'm sticking to windows xp till next year when they got the service pack out!

No, you only need 2 gigs if you want the aero coolness.
This discrepancy is the RAM requirements for the more advanced graphics Aero provides.
