You need to do a total reformat...
1. First, make sure that your computer is set to Boot to CD. This is a different procedure depending on your computer. When your computer first boots look for an option to enter the BIOS settings. Under the BIOS settings find the "Boot Order" and make sure the CD-ROM is set to boot first. If you have any problems with this please contact the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-HELP.

2. With the Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM drive, save your BIOS settings and exit.

3. If you've done everything correctly you should be asked to "Press Any Key to Boot from CD".

BETTER YET GO TO THE LINK AND YOU WILL SEE THE SCREEN SHOTS STEP BY STEP....

You should not really need to re-install windows if the O/S works fine after boot up,if its taking a long time to boot them get rid of some of the applications that are being loaded at boot up,click on start/run/then type in msconfig which will open a dialog box, click on ' start up' which will give you a list of all the programs that are being loaded at boot up,uncheck the boxes that you dont want to load, them tick apply,re-boot and your probs should be sorted, then go to control panel add/remove programs then delete what you dont want.
Its also a good idea to run disk clean up from time to time to get rid of any junked files.
