I've been looking at different optical drives and the price range really varies. 90% of this computer will be for gaming and I may burn CDs/DVDs from time to time. Any suggestions or things I should look for when I go to buy one? Thanks !

Very very little is important in the optical drive for a gaming machine, its not going to have any real affect on gaming. The only thing you might look for is one with a big buffer, but that will really only help when installing the games or if you are running a game from the CD/DVD (which is not a good idea). If you plan to burn you may want something with Lightscribe. Get this one and you will have everything you need, spending any more would be a waste:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135145
just make sure you have SATA, which if this is a new build it will.

You're going to want to go with a CD burner/ DVD reader at the very least. If you think you might use DVD burning features you can toss that in to.

There's other features like Lightscribe (can burn labels on the top of the disc) and dual layer burning (double the size of a normal DVD) that might interest you.

I'd personally just go with a 50-60$ LG DVD/CD +/- burner.

* Something to note is to make sure you get a + and - DVD reader/burner (2 different formats that do the same thing, cover all of your bases, I once had unreal tournament 2004 that wouldn't install on my PC because it was DVD + instead of DVD -).

The WD Caviar is a stable decision for regularly occurring use and gaming, yet to my recollection it is 7200 rpm. For (max overall performance) gaming platter based drives one ought to seem for 10,000 rpm or extra advantageous, and a stable score from different purchasers. i'd seem and notice in case you should no longer hit upon a deal on new egg and so on. in the journey that your finding for max overall performance. it might play video games fantastic, just to no longer boot as a severe overall performance stress. video games do study from the stress even with each little thing, the swifter get admission to would translate into extra advantageous overall performance.

As you want it for a gaming machine then it would be better to go for the fastest read speed you can find. Any of the well know brands are good enough for your needs, but for gaming it really is a case of the faster the read speed the better.

Buy DVD burner which can do all functions. And if you want to use light-scribe buy one with light-scribe function. The best writers are Samsung, Sony and ASUS.
