Re: Older Laptop – Dell Inspiron 8100; running Windows XP SP2; P3 with maxed out RAM at 512MB. Computer runs fine with the following exception.

Problem: Screen Resolution Issues
When the laptop is set at max resolution of 1280 X 1024 the viewable area of the monitor is full width and full height.
However, if you lower the resolution to say 1024 X 768 the viewable area becomes much smaller and has a black border around all four edges about 1½ inches wide.
If you further reduce the resolution to 800 X 600 the viewable area now becomes about 7”W X 5”H with large 3”+ black borders all around.

I figured a repair install of XP would fix the problem, but since the XP disk is 8 years old, the version on the PC with all the Microsoft updates is consider a newer version and XP won’t allow me to do a “repair” installation.
My only options would be to format the HD and reinstall from scratch or uninstall all the upgrades and perform the repair install.
Any viable suggestions?

Someone logged into my computer/messenger from an undisclosed location which then logged me off. They went and sent a graphic link to all of my contacts. How do I prevent this? I believe to be the same guy is now threatening to crash my computer and my boyfriends, how do i report him to yahoo and is it worth it?

The software I got with the scanner is for Win 95/98. I have WinXP so I tried Compatibility Wizard but it can't read the disk.
I also downloaded software from Mustek but this consists of 5 files and I can only manage to install the first one.
Any suggestions ?

Yesteryear the PCs were going from
1.9ghz to 2.0-2.4-2.6-3.0-3.4ghz.. and seemed in my eyes the speeds were climbing quick. Even in Laptops, my mate had one at 2.8ghz..[P4]...Nowdays.. i got a laptop at 1.6ghz..and the desktops are at like 2.6ghz or near there...
They seem to have slowed the speeds down and more so gone for the Cores instead, Duel core, Quad cores....etc...
Is a duel core really any better ??? r is higher speeds Better for us??
I keep getting told XP or even Vista is still programed for a Single core PC, and not quite got the goods for a Duel core, if that makes any scence to you guys..
( i know im into Tek and PC Specs, tho not to into the Really Technicals of it all :) ..)
I thought back 2yrs that todays PC would be like 5.6ghz...

i am using a friends computer to post this question.. I bought a HP Laptop - Compaq nx6325 pre-installed with Windows XP..it is Vista capable so i installed Vista Ultimate 32bit. i partioned my drives to the following Vista(C), Documents(D) and i left my HP XP Recovery Partion which is (E)..i haven't taken favour of Vista so i want to reinstall XP..the recovery partition has everything but i don't know how to boot it at start up and then format Vista and install the XP over it..Does anyone know how to boot my recovery partition. Also i have no recovery CD's i was told it is all on my Harddrive which i believe is the recovery Partion. i would much appreciate help ASAP. ThankYou
