The software I got with the scanner is for Win 95/98. I have WinXP so I tried Compatibility Wizard but it can't read the disk.
I also downloaded software from Mustek but this consists of 5 files and I can only manage to install the first one.
Any suggestions ?

Have a look at the following url and try redownloading the driver for your scanner.
To be frank, I don't know how you've only managed to install the first of five files as the first one automatically calls up the other four in sequence.

I had this scanner from new with an ME system and when I got a new PC with XP I had exactly the same problems as you had and tried three or four times to get it to work. I gave up and bought a combined scanner / printer. Sorry but I thought mine had just packed up but I guess it is a problem with lots of people.

i had one of these scanners they dont like service pack 2 the amount of messing about it takes to install and delete drivers its not really worth the hastle as they still dont work 100% of the time there is help on the packard bell forum for this problem people have put step by step instructions on how to do it but honestly its not worth the hastle

had same probs with mustek downloaded driver still didnt work would rec buy up to date one

yes get a new scanner. this one has out lived it's usefulness. & is more headaches thanit is worth.
