I was driving through a construction zone when all of a sudden I heard an awful knocking noise and my car starting pulling to the right. It felt and sounded like a flat tire. I pulled over and everything seemed fine, so I starting driving again. About a mile later, the same thing happened, but worse. And there was smoke coming from my wheel-well. The car runs fine, and the gauges are fine, but it's almost like the tire doesn't want to move. Does anybody have ANY idea what this could be?

Stock sized tires,Bosch 2 point plugs, new spark plug leads ( top shelf not cheap ones), Ams oil in engine, clean stock air filter and intake. 140,000 miles. Currently 22 / 18 MPG.
Is there anyone out there with the same truck who has truely gotten better MPG with a cold air intake and a cat back over sized exhust? Thinking of doing that and maybe change out the twin coils.
I don't need any remarks from 2 pointers. Thank you! Just those who have really done it and can offer up some real information please.
Thank you for the time and effort.

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS (4 cyl.) with 80,000 miles on it. I just bought it a week ago and noticed a tapping noise the other day, since then it's gotten worse, so, I checked the oil yesterday and was 2 quarts low. I added a quart and then got an oil change today because the tapping was worse. Even though I got the oil changed, it still is tapping. It taps for a while when it's cold, and when I rev it it gets faster, stops and then when I let off it continues. Once I've drove it and it's in idle, it has stopped and doesn't start again until it has been turned off and has been sitting and I restart the motor.
The noise sounds like it's coming from down behind the valve cover.
Does anyone have any ideas on what it is and how to fix it? I read different things online and am not sure which to believe. Thanks.

What can be the problem? I do a lot of work on it myself, and the last thing I did was change out the spark plugs and add some engine treatment with the oil change. Any help before I take it into a shop and get ripped off??
BTW it does it in ALL gears. Actually it started shaking after I got new batteries and new + - extension wires for the battery..

I was in an accident, and I pushed the frame 3 inches to the left. But by using some know-how, me and my neighbor got the frame less than an inch off. Right now, the driver side part of the frame is just pushed to the left, and the passenger's is too, but it's also pushed up. I don't want to spend all the money to have it straightened at a shop, so is there a way I can do it myself? If you have experience...please help me! And be serious!

Thanks.

Basically, my friend and I were blowing up ant hills near my parents' car. We were using M80s, which probably wasn't the best idea. Anyway, the ants are dead, but so is the windshield of my parents' car. We tried using clear duct tape, but the problem we discovered cannot be solved so easily. Luckily, they don't use that car much, so they probably won't notice the damage for a couple of days. Any suggestions?

I recently went to Firestone to get my front break pads and rotors replaced.. $250! They said that they were 75%-90% worn. The next day, I'm driving to and from work.. and they feel EXACTLY the same! I felt no difference when I had to break. I took it back over to Firestone and they claim that something was loose, they "fixed" it, but I still feel no difference. Does anyone know of anyone who will give me a second opinion - free break inspection?

Have a 2000 mit lancer 1.3 auto, most days she runs fine, then some mornings when you start and try to drive her she has a lack of power, when you try to accelerate nothing happen and then she takes off and then the engine slows down. Only bought the car 5 months ago (less than a 1000miles gone on since then), power seems to go up and down. I then turn her off and go back to her in the afternoon and she runs perfectly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (just to note when it happens no warning lights come up on the dash, so the garage say there is no point on putting it on a diagnostic machine as no fault will have been recorded. As it only happens about once a week I don't want to leave it into a garage as it probably won't happen when they have it and tehy will probably charge me a fortune for nothing.

I'm trying to remove the bottom timing belt cover. In order to do that I need to remove the a/c pulley. However, every time I turn the bolt the entire pulley moves with it. I thought about a puller tool. However, there are no holes to grab onto.

My fiance's car broke down saturday. The key would not turn in the ignition. I knew it had something to do with the tumblers. AAA towed it to the nearest garage, my fiance said to go ahead and fix the tumblers. The charged us $410 for the tumblers and a "rod". The guy said "we went ahead and fixed it, we're surprised you didn't wreck in the car". How could we wreck it if it wouldn't start?

What should we do? Doesn't this sound like a sham?

Yesterday has been the second time I have pulled black and gray stuff out my exhaust. It looks like straight animal hair and is about 2 feet long and I don't know how far it goes up. I have had a slight burning smell coming from the bonnet. Is it related? What's going on? Thanks to all...

I have recently noticed that when my car is on for a while, above the right tire around the hood area, it starts to smell like a hot glue gun, or in that sense, like somethings burning (plastic). I just got my oil changed and had them look, but they said they didn't see anything causing it. I can't afford to pay to have it looked at for a while, does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? It goes away as the car cools down, and starts again after it's been running for a while. I have to drive it 400 mi. in two days for a work meeting...... Suggestions?

I was told yesterday I need tie rod ends to pass my state inspection and was quoted $370, including labor. I was also told I need rear brake pads, quoted $330 with labor. Are these fair estimates, or should I shop around? I only have 15 days to clear my inspection now.

....and you want the heater to start throwing out warm air asap, is it best to turn the heat on high, hoping that it'll make the air warm more quickly, or does it really matter? Couldn't you just set the heat on low and the air heats just as quickly. I'd rather set it on low and wait for the warm air then turn it up as opposed to have the cold air freeze my toes waiting for warm air.

Do you change your battery automatically even if there doesn't seem to be any problems? Is there a certain mileage where you would do this? Are there any warning signs that you should change your battery before it actually dies and leaves you stranded somewhere? Any info pertaining to car batteries is appreciated.

The starter was put in in 1998 when I bought my new Durango. It has been working great up until this summer. No matter how new the batteries are in the remote it seems like the signal is getting weaker and weaker. I practically have to be within 50 feet of the vehicle before it will start. That kinds of defeats the purpose. Any ideas. Do remotes wear out? get corroded? Thanks for your ideas.

My 95 Jeep Cheorokee Larado decided it wasn't going to go today so it stopped on a corner, I was told to check my transmission fluid, it was bone dry, so I added it and then I started my car and put into drive, it spilled all the fluid out on the ground, there was enough in there to get me to work.
