That's a difficult question to answer....it's impossible to know how long it will hold out. If it's only slipping under heavy load at present then yes, chances are it will hold out for another month or so...particularly if you drive it easy.

You may also consider dropping in an anti-slip additive, it can be found at any auto parts store for about $7 a bottle. It won't stop the slipping completely but it will aid in extending the life another few hundred miles/a month or so and keep the heat level down.

Under no circumstances should you rev the engine to high RPMS, change gears at a low RPM and keep your speeds low. Do NOT downshift, when coming to a stop simply release the gear and leave it in neutral (this is good practice anyway). If you follow these guidelines then you will most likely make it through the holidays.

Get it fixed ASAP afterwards, the above is merely a band-aid solution and is really no guarantee. Clutch packs do not usually just "go out" all of a sudden if you've been experiencing this for months already it's a certainty that the disk is the issue...basically like a big brake pad that mates the engine to the gear box.

Good luck!

Well, if you follow his advice several things can happen, not the least of which will be the cost of the tow to get the vehicle to the shop when it completely fails and strands you.

It's getting worse each time, not better, so why put it off until it takes more work, more parts replaced due to over heating of the clutch (all that slipping generates heat you know) and more money spent?

Is your friend expecting some big gift from you?

Bear in mind that if it goes completely and you're not in the AA or RAC, the tow home will probably cost most of what you'll pay for the clutch replacement.

Your friend obviously doesn't know much about cars, and doesn't have enough concern for the fact you could get stranded in the cold or cause an accident on a turn if it gets too bad. Get it fixed.

it depends, are u having to add fluid? if so its possible that you just have a leak and sometimes a simply turn of a wrenge can fix the problem, granted its usually not that simple, but i was always taught to check the simple things first.if you are having to add fluid, does it help?If so,then it should be fine through the holidays as longas youkeep plenty of fluid init. If your not having to add fluid or you are and it doesn't help, then I would suggest getting it fixed ASAP
