I have recently noticed that when my car is on for a while, above the right tire around the hood area, it starts to smell like a hot glue gun, or in that sense, like somethings burning (plastic). I just got my oil changed and had them look, but they said they didn't see anything causing it. I can't afford to pay to have it looked at for a while, does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? It goes away as the car cools down, and starts again after it's been running for a while. I have to drive it 400 mi. in two days for a work meeting...... Suggestions?

That's probably because you have a cheap car that was glued together rather than welded. You should probably get a new car some day, because your current one sucks.

Check around the exhaust manifolds for anything melted or lying against them...could be a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust as well...happens once in a while. Reach around with a small mirror to look at hard areas to see. Check it out well before the trip.

your parking brake may be on, If thats no longer it i do not imagine everybody can furnish you with a instantly answer without an inspection. My buddy's automobile smells like burning plastic when we accelerate frustrating. he's even were given somewhat worn down brakes. may be suitable, may no longer be. Its an particularly previous automobile. i might want to have a mechanic examine it out.

The smell could also come from the oil the poeple who changed your oil spilled onto your exhaust pipe.
