Tool boxes have thousands of dollars in them all packed and ready for the taking. Does it make you nervous?

I brought my car in to a mechanic yesterday to have a power steering fluid leak fixed. They also changed the oil. At the mechanics, the odometer stopped displaying. As well, the speed, rpm etc. (the entire dashboard) is not working at all.

Please advise what could cause this. Could it have been something the mechanic might have done accidentally? Like loosen a wire or something, a quick fix? Or is it likely unrelated. The stereo is also asking for "code" so it means the battery or alternator power supply had been disconnected.

The mechanic says he didn't cause it but has no idea what is wrong with it and I should bring it to Honda. I've called them and made an appointment. I asked on the phone what it might be and he said he'll have to see it but most likely the instrument cluster has gone. Is this an expensive repair? Sounds like it.

This is a 1999 Accord with under 60,000 kilometres. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

O.K. Here's the details:

When I drive in dry conditions, car is fine.

When I drive in rain on left curves, it feels like the back end is gonna fish tail.

Now that it is snowing...driving straight is not possible. Car is all over the road. The entire car sways or swerves from left to right.

I just got 1 new tire, the other 3 need to be replaced, not bald, but almost....

Car needs an alignment pretty bad....

Could needing an alignment and having 3 wearing tires cause the car to sway like this? I have driven the car in the snow before (last year) and it was fine. Swaying is so bad that I don't even feel comfortable driving a mile down the road...

I have a hyundai accent 1999, I get about 28 miles/gallon, its an older car. The other day when I was checking fluids, I looked under the car and noticed that about two bolts where my fuel tank was attached, there was a level of liquid. I assumed it was gasoline, but it had a water consistancy, and had no smell whatsoever. Since then it has remained dry until after I have ran it. It's also been quite cold out, do you think its just some sort of condensation? or should I be concerned?

I have a 2000 Saturn LS1 and I've noticed that in the morning when I start it cold (it's about 20 degrees F here now) when I turn the key to the "on" position, but not to "start" right away, it makes sort of a groaning noise for about 2 seconds. I assume that it's just the fuel pump or something priming itself, but is it bad that it's that loud? I've heard people say it's better to do that in the winter because it lets the engine prime itself before it tries to start it. Anyone have info on this?

I always use 5w30 if that makes a difference.

yes the car has AC and I don't have pictures of the dent on the door. The car some problems that will need to get fixed by a mechanic. It leaks oil slowely and white smoke comes out the muffler when the car first starts. I took the car to a mechanic and they fixed the problem because they said their was some type of clogg. The only thing is it needs to run for a few hours to completely clear. Also, I am selling the car "as is" and thats why it's being sold at a cheaper cost then what I paid because I know those two issues need to be fixed. Let me know what you decide. And if your still interested we can set up an appointment. Thanks.

so does anyone know how much that will cost to get fixed and will it be drivable until it gets fixed what the problem could be

So here it is.. 2 months ago the brake & battery light started to come on dimly... then after a week or so the car started dying while idling. I replaced the battery and terminals with no fix... so I took it to a shop & they informed me the alternator was puting out less then 12 volts. So I had them replace the alt. they put in a rebuilt alt & it seemed ok... the cars battery meter would read 13.5 volts after starting then after driving for a little bit it would drop to 12.5 volts while idling then back up to 13.5 while cruising. just last night once I got to work... the brake battery& oil light came on bright & the car died out.. I noticed the battery meter was reading under 12 again. Now it continues to die when idleing like before. did the alt die in just 2 months? Also about an hour befor I went to work I had to disconnect the battery becuase my girlfriend set off the car alarm and it wouldn't turn off... but I reconected it (tight) unsur if that cld do n e ting help?

I know it will damage the engine but how does it do so mechanically?

What effect would the occupiers of the vehicle, say a family sized car, experience?

In my Ford Focus owner's guide it says this about checking the engine oil level :

"For an exact reading a cold engine should be run for a short time. Switch the ignition off and wait some minutes for the engine oil to flow back into the sump."

Does this mean that some of the oil will still be in the upper part of the engine so that if you checked the oil stone cold, it would be alright to go slightly above the maximum mark on the dipstick ?
