Its probably the voltage regulator. Depending on what year vehicle, the alternator may have the voltage regulator built in, if so it will need to be replaced. On older models it is seperate and fairly inexpensive.

appears like a undesirable voltage regulator. The engine's speed varies for the duration of acceleration and moving gears, voltage regulators are necessary to administration the output produced by using the alternator or generator. a very intense voltage output, brought about by using the engine's bigger speeds if the alternator or generator is unregulated, could desire to deliver a surge in the path of the device, overcharging the battery and unfavourable the vehicle's electric powered structures. an somewhat low voltage output will fail to produce sufficient skill to maintain the battery's cost and run the vehicle's digital structures, arising a load on the battery and probably reducing the battery's existence. Voltage regulators are attainable from the dealership or aftermarket areas shops. some vehicles could have exterior voltage regulators, wherein case the voltage regulator may be offered one after the other and particularly replaced. notwithstanding, maximum vehicles' voltage regulators are placed interior the alternator, requiring the owner to the two purchase a sparkling alternator or rebuild the present alternator with a sparkling voltage regulator.

The alternator output increase with rpm. The faster the engine turns the higher the output, up to a point. That's why your lights get brighter.

it could be the alternator belt so when you press the gas it stops slipping and the lights get the right voltage and amperage they need making them brighter

Your lights should be getting nearly constant voltage.
If they brighten with engine rev.s it's a sign of a fault
somewhere in the battery or charging system.
Without further info. it might be low battery or
alternator/regulator related.
Have it checked before it strands you somewnere.

That is a sign that your battery is starting to go out. Becaus the battery is not pushing the right amount of power the alternator is doing all the work.

By George, I think you've got it! Take it to a Wal-Mart or Shucks and have a battery/starting system check. they may be able to tell you what your weakest link is. Have you checked your belts to be sure they aren't slipping?

Get your alternator checked, just like you suspect sometimes they fail gradually.

most likely your battery is weak, try cleaning the battery terminals and checking your alt. fanbelt for tightness.
