It needs 2 new intercoolers, set of headlights, front bumper + some bodywork. Are the repairs something that an amateur - with a proper manual and/or guidance - could do?

If you read information and news about what type of fuel is best for a car, they all say use what the manufacturer recommends.

Well the manufacturer of my car claims that 87octane is fine for it, however when I use premium fuel, I get better gas mileage and no annoying knocking and pinging in the engine when I press on the accelerator.

Were is my fuel filter located, and could I change it myself? I havent changed it in 6 years, but getttting low gas mileage, any ideas how easy it would be for me to change it? I have basic mechanical skills.

It seem that these filters in the exhaust system are turning new ford trucks in to "flamethrowers" I'm wondering-can you just pull that thing out, or will that screw something else up?

HI, I have a 1992 toyota paseo with automatic transmission, and I have been getting low gas mileage lately(last 2 times I filled up at gas station chevron). I usually get about 105-120 street miles(non highway) per half tank but recently its been around 70-80 miles. What could be wrong? I change the oil every 3 months, and i just recently changed the air filter, and its still made no difference, maybe even worse. The car runs just like it did when it came out of the assembly line, what could I check next? The transmission oil is only 1 year old too, and tire pressure is exact. the car has a 1.5ltr engine, and 100 horsepower, and a 11 gallon tank.

I have a 1994 Infiniti J30. This is a new sound, just started today. The car is parked, keys are out, yet a loud hissing (kinda like a fan being on) sound is coming from what seems like infront of the glove compartment. Looked under the hood, couldn't really see anything or where the noise was coming from. Never had this problem before, have no clue what's wrong. Any ideas? Thanks.

My car lost almost all of its oil within one week, and started making a clicking noise and it sounds like it is coming from the engine. That is when i checked the oil. I put 3 qts. of oil back in it and started up and let it run for about 2 minutes, shut it off and let it set for a few minutes then checked the dip stick again, it still showed barely any oil and the clicking didn't go away. That is when my boyfriend suggested that i needed a new oil pump for it because oil wasn't getting into the engine. I have spent the last 12 hours looking for an oil pump and can't find any information on it, or if my car even has one. Any and all help with my delima would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The most recent computer code I got from my car was a 51. Which is the O2 sensor being stuck on lean position. When I purchased the car used, it was not running, the catalytic converter was plugged up, smoke and exhaust was pouring from the engine and the engine was shaking erratically when we tried to start it. We unplugged the catalytic converter and it started it and it worked fine, to take it home and find out that one fuse was bad and the oxygen sensor was bad. I replaced the oxygen sensor (it was from a wrecking yard but it was fine.) Over time I've found the car has developed problems with the engine vibrating more than it should while it's idling. I can smell exhaust and I'm getting very bad gas mileage. So my guess is that SOMETHING is causing the oxygen sensor to go bad. We replaced the map sensor, but nothing changed.
If an O2 sensor is stuck in a certain position can it fix itself or is it pretty much done?
Could it be the computer? Where can I find a computer for my car?

I have a 2008 (or could be 2007, I really don't know) Lexus IS 250. Everytime I park and turn the engine off and go into my house, I hear this weird pinging/almost knocking kind of sound. I checked, and it's coming from underneath the car and not the engine itself.

The thing is, I've been using premium gas from 76 (I've only used regular once, and that was the first time I got the car, which was only a month ago). The pinging sound has been recent but not too recent.

Help!

my rav4 states that I should use a single viscosity gear oil (SAE90) for my transfer case & rear differential. while for the transmission oil it recommends a multi-viscosity oil (75W-90).

question, can I use the multi-viscosity oil (75W-90) for the SAE90 requirement of my transfer case & rear differential? would this be too thin?

thanks

I have a 2 wheel drive 2000 Toyota Avalon. My dad said he got new tires for my car exactly a year ago, but the front two are already going bald. I'm no tire expert, but I've been doing some research and I just went outside to look at them. The back tires seem fine; they passed the penny test and I can't see the tread bars. The front two however, didn't pass the penny test, and the tread bars are almost at the same level as the surface of the tire.

I talked my dad into looking at them, and he thinks they're fine. He also thought there was too much air in the tires and started deflating them a bit...even though I got them filled only a few weeks ago at Big Tires...

I live in Denver, and last winter was horrible!! I had just moved from CA too. I got stuck in snow about 5 times, and I skid really bad one time too. Could this be why my tires are so bad after only 1 year? What would you recommend I do now?

I have a 2000 Toyota Avalon with about 85,000 miles on it; tires have never been changed. Winter's coming up (I moved to Denver 2 years ago from LA...winters are bad here) and I admit I'm not knowligable when it comes to cars, but I just did the penny check on them. The 2 back tires are fine, but the front tires are bald... so when I get my tires changed, do I just change the front two or all four? Also, how long does the process take, and about how much can I expect to pay?

I just bought a '96 Mustang less then a week ago. It runs smooth and quietly. I was checking my coolant resevoir and it is dirty! It definitely needs a flush. But, the dirtiness is caused by oil mixed with the coolant in the resevoir. Then, when I checked the radiator, it's mostly green, but you can tell that some oil is mixed in with the coolant in there. What could it be and do I have a week before I can get it looked at?

I've always taken my car to pepboys and it seems like the brake pads only last a year at best. What's up with that? When you get a new car the brake pads last for a few years so why can't replacement brake pads last just as long? Do they use cheap pads or something? The funny part is Pepboys has a warranty for the pads but not for the cost of labor which is where most of the cost comes in. But I digress.. Can anyone tell me the best place to go to get brake pads that will last? thanks
