could be nether. I have a 85 dodge ram it did the same thing and all that i did was turned up the idle. You may want to check the timing to.

Just a thought. I had one that did the same thing one time. It was the coil. It didn't have enough spark to run under a load.

Yes i have heard many times if your engine dies as you pull out of (P)park, your torque converter has failed...
