It seem that these filters in the exhaust system are turning new ford trucks in to "flamethrowers" I'm wondering-can you just pull that thing out, or will that screw something else up?

If the exhaust system is flaming, there's something very wrong and it's not the filter. Get it fixed before you explode or something.

Drawbacks of removing the filter: You'll still be driving a dangerous flamethrower, you'll be spewing and breathing particulates, and you'll never pass inspection.

If its throwing flames take it to your ford dealer and have the computer reprogram.
