I have a 2008 (or could be 2007, I really don't know) Lexus IS 250. Everytime I park and turn the engine off and go into my house, I hear this weird pinging/almost knocking kind of sound. I checked, and it's coming from underneath the car and not the engine itself.

The thing is, I've been using premium gas from 76 (I've only used regular once, and that was the first time I got the car, which was only a month ago). The pinging sound has been recent but not too recent.

Help!

99% chance it is the exhast system or the heat shields around it cooling. they will ping as they cool down. it is nothing to worry about. very normal

When you turn off the engine on most cars the manifold shield start to cool down and will make a pinging noise during the process. The exhaust pipe as well as the engine will make noises also, in the cooling down process

Sorry is a Lesux... It could be some loose that is banging on the car. Take it to the dealer, if you have the money to pay for that overpriced Camry you can afford to fix it. Beside, it should be under warranty, let them figured it out. The dealer should grant it.

Where you live, is it cold, 40 or Below? catalytic Converters get Really Hot, Do you Think it could be That?

Get it to the Dealer to confirm the problem or no Problem.

Possibly the exhaust cooling down. All vehicles do it, depending on exhaust diameter and routing the sounds can be different.

I also hear that in my Toyota Rav4.

As I know, it's the catalytic converter cooling down. Don't worry about it.

It could be your gas. Add some additive to the gas tank for a couple tanks and see if that helps.
