sounds like you're doing fine already!
But for that many miles, I would do this..
I would use Valvoline Maxlife 10w40 in your engine with a high quality filter, DO NOT USE FRAM! Purolator, Wix, AC Delco, Bosch, Napa... good quality filters make the difference. at the very worst, use fram's Tough Guard if you can't find any of the above.
the Maxlife motor oil has addtives to help keep seals rejuvenated so they'll continue to seal. You can also use the Maxlife semi-Synthetic as well, adds a bit more protection for only $2 more. a 1 gallon container is $12 at walmart.
Do this every 4000 miles, you'll be fine. if your engine uses a quart in between this, just drop in a quart, nothing to worry about.
as for the transmission. do a tranny service every 2 years. this is a fluid change and filter change. the tranny pan has a drain plug, it helps a lot! take the pan off, clean it, put the new gasket & filter on, again, NO FRAM!
You can use the Valvoline Maxlife Dexron III/Mercon tranny fluid, it's perfect for your tranny.
What I would also do is add in a bottle of Lucas Transmission fix. what this stuff does is enhance the tranny fluid, don't let the name fool you, it's high quality stuff and really works.
I use it as a preventive maintence measure. It'll help with shifting, heat and reduce wear.
Also use a bottle of fuel injector cleaner every oil change (Techron is good, anything over $5.

Use synthetic oil my car requires it. (high millage synthetic if you can find it), It lasts longer and especially if you stick with regular changes it should help your engine. add what ever your manual say as far as weight based on the upcoming temperature in your area. Check your maintenance schedule and get a transmission filter and fluid as recommended, also check on schedules for replacing your timing Belt / Chain, Some engines will get seriously damaged if it breaks. change your spark plugs as recommended, also your PCV valve, Air filter, Ignition Cap and Rotor, breather filter (if you have one). Make sure your tires are inflated to the proper level (to help gas mileage) use a good brand concentrated injector cleaner. I never heard anything bad about FRAM, just get something that gets the smallest particles filtered. Don't use transmission additive unless your having a problem (I have been told they just expand your seals to stop leaks but that makes them softer and over time is bad). Though with the age of your car I'd use some if it started to shift weird. probably help for a while then get the trany serviced later on when you can or when and if it starts acting up again. Oh and watch your tread , look at the wear indicators, if your tread gets to low you could loose control or slide in the rain.

I'm not a mechanic, I'm a physicist, but my feeling is that you should just do your regular millage-based maintenance.
The worst miles are the ones through the city with a cold engine, so by having a long commute, you're putting pretty easy miles on your car. Miles are miles, but don't sweat it because of excessive driving in a short period of time -- just get your oil changes and everything on time.

Keep up with the oil changes-I have a chevy with 230,000 miles on it-get the oil changes regularly-had the belts and tune up done at 100,000 and 200000 miles and it runs like it is brand new! Good Luck!

I like Valvoline. It has an oil for high mileage cars. Lucus is also good to put in the oil on oil changes. If you get your oil changed somewhere you can buy the lucus separate and ask them to put it in. Change the tranny fluid and oil as recommended for that vehicle.

drive with your widnows closed (air friction/gas mileage) and make sure all your tires are always well inflated. If they aren't your axel will be out of alignment AND it will worsen your gas mileage while making your car work harder.
