The cold air intakes (CAI) are not hard to install. I would recommend the short ram type over the CAI though. It's much less work and the performance is similar, a little less hp generally. If you live in areas with a lot of rain or snow, don't get a CAI. These pipes run your air filter low to the ground so the risk of water getting in your filter is higher. These kits require you to remove the old stock air filter box along with your air filter. They also require you to remove the old air tube and install theirs. The process is rather easy. Good kits require no modifications like cutting or drilling.
These don't ruin your engine. Your car is probably out of warranty so it seems no hassle. I would get a short ram type for this car. You will see better acceleration and higher rpms. Fuel mileage might increase a little. Your engine will sound deeper, but noiser too.
Make sure to properly oil the K&N type filter if it comes not pre-oiled.

No its not hard but you usually need to be able to lift the vehicle so you can securely mount the intake to the body of the car so it does not vibrate and creates holes in it self... if you are good mechanical wise maybe an hour to fully disassemble the stock air box and install the new one... Make sure you get everything with the kit couplers clamps filter otherwise its a waste of money for 200

That isn't a cold air intake. It's a short ram air intake with a heat shield.

In my opinion, the short ram air intake is a more viable solution to a full blown CAI system. The results of a CAI system can vary wildly from car to car.

That wouldn't be that hard to install. Just make sure you have the brackets to hold it in place and that the filter snugs in nicely to the intake manifold.

No, a cold air intake does little to nothing for a vehicles performance or gas mileage. The air fuel ratio will stay the same, and the O2 sensors will not cause an SES light to come up.

Sorry, this is not a cold air intake. This is hot underhood air which is no where as good as your stock intake. Simply slide in a K&N airfilter into your Grand Am. Take a hard look at your "source" of air in your stock set-up. It's outside air which is colder and contains more oxygen
