I am currently using a 5-door Peugeot 307 model '03. I know Pugs tend to engine break when you release the gas pedal but there is distinct high pitch sound that is produced. I do not like it. What is it? It sounds like metal-to-metal contact

Ok I love my car and everything but I know it's gonna be costly to get it repaired now that the warranty is expired. But I think I need to get my rotors replaced or something, because when I do above 60 mph on the highway, it starts to shake! Like the steering wheel shakes. What is wrong? Whatever it is, and I have to get it fixed, how much is it going to cost me? And should I just by a whole new car instead? lol I'm tempted to explain it to the dealer where I go, and just buy a different car, roll my loan or just trade it in. What is the most cost effective? By the way, my car is a '98 C230 with 110,000 miles.

My Astra 1.6 is five years old and has mileage of less than 21,000. My garage tells me that Vauxhall recommend that the cambelt should be changed after 40,000 or four years, whichever is the sooner.

The garage also says that I should get the cambelt changed urgently in view of the time - as if the cambelt breaks it could cause further damage which would mean a much larger bill.

Do you think it's urgent to get the cambelt changed? If not, how long would you leave it?

I just put my car (2000 Civic) in the shop for the 4th time because it keeps losing pressure in its brake system. Originally, I was told that the problem was a leaky cylinder on the rear drum, that cost me $200 to replace. Then, as my pedal kept becoming slacker (I'm just losing pressure, not actually leaking brake fluid), I had the master brake cylinder changed. But now 3 days later, the travel (or slack) in my pedal has doubled, so I just dropped it off again. This garage is normally the most competent and honest around, and I've been there a dozen times before (so much that I'm on a first name basis with the owner). I've never had to have anything redone by these guys. He told me that basically every part of my brake system has been thoroughly replaced or inspected, but that he'll look it over anyway. What else could be causing this? Thank you.

My Dad told me that I need a new car. His policy is that once a car has its first problem it needs to be replaced. I really do not want a new car and do not know what to get. I have a 4runner right now and am content. He said that with the sell of my car I will have about 60k toward a new one. What do I get? It has to be a turck or SUV. At least that is what he says, but I really do not care.

Its intermittent non start, the ignition switch tested ok. I replaced fuse box 18 months ago, why does this keep hapenning to me? ps the dealer wont discount it even though they replaced it 18 months ago, as only had 1 year warranty.

My son wants to be a "REAL" Auto mechanic, and I have no idea what route to take. By real I mean someone who can work on high end autos (BMW, Etc) He just started high school and they have no automotive program.I dont want him to go to a fly-by-night tech school and end up doing brake jobs and oil changes. Anyone have any real experience with Wyotech? What would be the best path.

We've got a 97' Chevy Blazer that won't start when it's rained out. Obviously we're getting water under the hood and it prevents the truck from starting, but any ideas where we could start the troubleshooting? On dry days it runs just fine.

The new car I bought wasn't properly prepped, and now -- three months after buying the car -- the rail-dust residue has to be un-done.

My concern (worry, really) is that it won't all be attended to; that it wil be done in patches; and that further down the road, more instances of rail dust will present themselves.

Should I insist that the entire car be treated, whether or not rail dust is visible? I suspect they'll simply treat the spots they can see. I do NOT want to have to be running back to the dealer every few months to have this fixed.

What do you suggest I do/say to help insure the problem gets fixed once and for good? Should I involve management? I definitely will tip the dude who does the work (though I don't expect to have to pay for the repair service), but should I tip him up front and let him know there's more if -- and only if -- he does a boffo job? Is that insulting? I do not want to antagonize the guy who's gonna repair my ride, ferchrissakes. Advice?

2001 Ford Escort ZX2. I replaced the lower ball joints on both sides as well as the tie rods, now i am hearing a strange popping sound when i hit a bump or make a sharp turn. This sound was not there before we replaced the parts. My friend who replaced the parts for me told me to drive it for a few days, if it continues to get back with him. He seems to think it will go away in time when the parts "break in". I dont know about that. Any clue what it could be?

When i'm driving my Maestro cold i get a lot of shuddering from the drivers front side whenever i turn LEFT, it doesn't happen when i turn right, after the car warms up after about 20 mins driving it does get less intense but still happens. An ideas on what this may be.

I have had the clutch cable replaced about 2 months ago and am in the process of having that replaced again because it didn't seem right and the garage who fitted it agreed to replace it free of charge

I have changed the battery twice! Change the ignition once because it made a grinding noise when starting sometimes. the lights come on fine, not dim, as if the battery is dying. Everything works fine. But turn the key and nothing maybe a low single click sound. Some times if i jump it it works, or either if I take off the red battery cable turn the ignition the put it back on, it works. Once a guy spent 30 sec under the hood tighten something didn't have a problem for a year. Yeah, he never told me what the !@#$ he did. It doesn't happen often and pretty much happens at random. Please help, thanks

I have a 2001 Ford Sport Trac and all of a sudden this morning it started screeching like demons from hell. It still handled fine, braked fine, accelerated fine, everything was normal except for this god-awful screeching. It continued on for about 3 miles, then all of a sudden it stopped mid-screech. Is it possible something got wedged in the undercarriage and then worked itself free (please say yes!), or does it sound like something more mechanical?

It's a 98 EX model. And I think one of the connecting pipes might be rusted and may need replacing as well. I've seen advertised prices for mufflers, but it does not include labor, of course, and I don't know how much additional that would be.

Where do you auto repair experts recommend getting the repair done? Midas, Car-x, the dealership, etc???

Thanks!
