The head gasket on my Peugeot 106 has 'gone' for the second time within six months. (I was told the cylinder head didn't need skimming the first time but something tells me it did!!). Someone told me to use HG sealant because it would save a lot of money, rather than have the HG replaced.
Does anyone know if the sealant works? and if it does, how long might I expect it to last, roughly?
Alternatively, if I get the head gasket replaced, how much longer might I expect to be able to continue using the car?

The car's 9 years old, has an 1100 petrol engine and has done just under 100,000 miles. I really don't know what to do and would be very grateful for any advice, suggestions, etc. Thank you

It looks like the scratch is from keeping the old wipers on too long, the scratch follows the pathe the wiper takes. Any fix besides a new windshield?

I have an automatic transmission '92 Stealth. When I put the car in reverse, it rocks pretty hard when the car is first started. The longer I drive, the less noticable the rocking sensation when reversing - i.e. if I drive a distance to a place and the transmission fluid warms up, after parking and then reversing out of the spot the hard shift into reverse is not as noticable and sometimes not even present. I guy at a shop said it was most likely a transmission fluid leak somewhere and added a quart of fluid and gave me a card to a transmission shop. The other problem is when the car is accelerating from a stop, it is embarassing slow! It seems to have lost any power in the lower gears. Don't think these two problem are related and perhaps it is both a transmission problem and engine problem?

Anyone know of regular problems with Nationwide Autocentres, they took a car belonging to a friend of mine in for MOT, insisted it needed new brakes and wheel bearings, charged him £600 and didnt even keep the parts as proof!!!

Anyone had similar problems with these people?

When I hooked up my 100/90 watt bulbs (while they were installed in the new 4x6 headlight housings) for a practice run for some reason my factory bright lights came on by themselves. How could this be happening? My whole electrical system is stock also.

i've seen people do this somehow and it looksl ike a useful idea especially on the golf course where you need to get a dead machine out of the way. so how do you jump it? people seem to do it through the starter solenoid.

Hello. Had a few issues with my engine not starting due to no spark. A friend removed the distributor and totally cleaned it, re-set points, replaced the condensor and replaced the spark plugs - with what he says are the same but from a different company (Bosch).

There is now a spark, but when turning over the engine sometimes I get a 'clanging' noise - could be a backfire. If the distibutor cap is removed the engine turns over as normal (I've been told this means that the pistons etc are OK?). However I am concerned!!!

Currently I don't want to get the engine running without really knowing that this noise is - for fear of damaging it. Should I be worried? I've also noticed that since the distributor has been placed back onto the car it moves when the engine is turned over.

Renaut Clio1.2RT-1998. Engine cuts out, oil light comes on. Plenty of oil in the car. What is this problem?

It started last year and 2 or 3 different mechanics (including an official Renault garage) have looked at the problem and everytime they say all they can think of is to change the oil, but the problem keeps recurring. Quite worried as quite a serious/dangerous problem if engine cuts out while overtaking on the motorway for example. The car has plenty of oil in it, we check the level everyday. There must be some other problem involving this same oil light. Please help if you know something. Many thanks.

I recently got my car head gasket replaced. This morning after having to drive to work through large puddles, i pulled into the car park and the stop sign in my dashboard started flashing!! Could this be something to do with driving through the puddles or something else?

I am dealing with strips of duct tape-residue on the body of my car. - Two weeks ago, my car was out of commission, I had to leave my car outdoors! - With two of the windows rolled fully open, I had no other choice than to tape a sheet of plastic on the body to block the flooding rainshowers!
Now, (2 weeks later) after trying to peel the tape off the body, I left strips of "sticky"-residue still on the body of my car.
What (safe/ non-corrosive) chemicals can I use to remove this sticky residue?
Rather than (carefully) using the edge of a RAZOR BLADE (risking to scratch the paint surface underneath) what else could I try?

Thanks for REASONABLE replies.

Its a 2003 Tiburon with 87k miles for $50 under the KBB value at $8450. 2-Door. The reason she says she's selling it is because her son is graduating so they are moving and she's getting a bigger vehicle for the move. I don't believe everything I hear so you know how that goes. Okay, she said she printed off the CarFax history report. Here's the installed features:

ok, the thermostat is new, the water pump does not leak, the radiator is new, the engine coolant sensor is new, anti-freeze is not missing, and the fans work. i recently changed a fuse that made the fans not turn on, so now the fans turn on at approx. 230 degrees, which my car did not do before. it never went over the normal temp(190). why is it going over now?

morning, i started it up and right away the chk eng. lite came on and stayed on..when I backed out of the drive everything seemed to b ok but when I put the car in drive it seemed to shift pretty hard and then shifted pretty hard into 1st gear..after that it ran smooth..I have been drivivng it all week and the chk eng lite is still on and it is still shifting hard into drive and 1st gear but it has not gotten any worse..I took it to auto zone and they hooked it up to their little comp gauge and said it showed to have a code indicating that a vacuum hose mite be off somewhere??? We don't even see any vacuum hoses..any ideas.. we have recently had some medical expenses so I dnt have the $ to have a mechanic check it out..I called 4 diff ones and they said 100.00 just to tell you whats actually wrong..in our owners manual it says you shouldn't even have to check the transmission fluid..only change it out completely after so many miles..any good mechanics out there???

i am tired of paying too much money to mechanic's especially to dealerships when it's a specific problem and the shop does not have a clue what's going on with your car so they tell you that you have to send it to the dealership and the car is more times in the shop then on the road. some one please help me because my 2001 oldsmobile alero is a piece of, well you know what i mean! mechanic's take advantage when it comes to over charging their clients. thanx
