I had a Nissan Altima that did that too.

could be a few things. maybe you need to change spark pluggs or clean the fuel system. Worse you may need it rebuilt. Never know until you look at properly.

or timing

is it manual or auto transmission? if manual, the clutch needs adjustment or is very worn. if its automatic, it needs a tune up which involves tightening the bands

Your carburator and your ignition timing are off. Get a tune up.
