If the oil leak is a very slow leak, even if the engine looks oily, you may not need to do anything. Oil leaks on engines are very common and only some of them have to be repaired. It depends on where the oil is leaking from, and if the shop can't tell you that, you need a new shop! It could be the result of a recent oil change where the oil filter or oi drain plug are leaking. Another typical leak is at the engine's oil pan gasket or around the valve covers.

Oil drain plug - years of over tightening the plug would cause this. Most common problem.

Camshaft O-Ring - front of the engine - very common
Crankshaft O-Ring - front of the engine - very common

Rear main seal - between the engine and transmission. can happen if car is over 100,000 miles.

Oil pan gasket - oil pen is torqued light and it gets very lose over time

Oil level sending unit/oil pressure sensor - gasket goes bad over time

Oil fill hole

Head gasket - leaks oil into coolant circulation hole. A major problem
