I recently bought a 2001 VW Jetta that needs some detailing work, first does anyone have a suggestion to clean the seat belts, they are tan and look kinda dirty also the clear lens headlights are kind of shadowy, it's not condensation but more like scratches or something is there a fix for this I'd like to get them shiny and clear again.

The reason I looked at my brake fluid was because my brakes were a bit spongy (the pedal went all the way to the floor) the other day (they're fine now, even before I added a little brake fluid). But, when I went to add a little bit of brake fluid to bring the level to the 'maximum level' line I noticed how brown the existing brake fluid was. The new brake fluid was crystal clear. Do I need to change the brake fluid? How often is it suggested to replace the brake fluid?

Also, it was pretty hot the day my brakes went spongy. Could it be due to the brake fluid overheating and not working effectively? I have a 89' Honda Civic HB with non-power disc brakes in the front and drums in the back.

My 2002 Cavalier's AC is acting strangely - the cooling/heating is fine, but the fan only kicks in when I have the knob turned to the third strongest setting. Anything lower and nothing happens. Is this a fan belt problem or something else? I can't really afford to take it to the shop unless it's something easy to fix and inexpensive, so I'd appreciate any advice on what the problem could be and how to best fix it!!

After driving in the rain for an hour as I was turning right into a parking lot the motor stalled and would not start again. I checked oil found it needed a quart "light did not turn on" after letting it sit for half hour it still did'nt turn on.Mechanic did electronic scan it showed it needs ignition coil but after repacing with new part it still will not start .If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

The brakes in our car are not working, my first thought is that we need new brake pads, but my boyfriend said that it could be the brake fluid, so we pored some brake fluid but it's still the same.
He looked under the car and said that there's something broken which is leaking the brake fluid.
Does anyone have an idea of what it cost to fix this???
He's an idiot and I told him to talk to someone who knows about cars to find out what it may cost, but he just wont. He's making it look like its's alot of money. I think he just wants us to get a new car.

my car never over heats but the temperature guage goes over halfway. when i am coasting down hill or sitting still the guage goes higher when i am at normal driving it seems to be ok, when i am coasting and or sitting still and the temp guage is 3/4 hot the air comming out of the heater is cold, as soon as i take off and accelerate the air becomes warm, i am not for sure if it is the radiator, water pump, or a head gasket, it looses very little water during this action, maybe 6 or 8 ounces, i hate to pay 4 or 5 hundred dollars to get head gaskets put on and still have the problem, by the way there is no water in the oil or no oil in the water, which is most common in blown head gaskets, i appreciate any answers on this matter

I need to have my front struts replaced. Should I set up an alignment for this as well? Or should the garage automatically check and perform and alignment?

Hi all, I have a 05 Highlander, 4wd.
When I do the state inspection today, the guy told me that 2 of my tires are worn out, I have to change the tires to pass the inspection, and I was told the original tire is about to last this long. The car only have 20000 mile on that, I don't know why these tires only last such a short period.
If I need to change, what's your suggestion will be? Change 4 or change 2? and what's the brand you recommend.
They recommend the Yokohama, and cost about 530 for 4 include everything.

thanks,

The gas cap has been replaced, it's had a tune-up, oil change and it did have a cracked manifold. All that has been fixed but the engine ligt came back on under less than 300 miles and my fresh oil change and fresh oil is gone basically. there is no leak. No trace is left behind at all. It's just burning oil. What else can it be? The Oxygen sensor?

I was drving along the motorway and the water coolant light came on and i stopped straight away and opened the cap and this brown sludge came out. I got the car home on a trailer and the AA man said it was the head gasket.

I also must admit it had been misfiring when cold and the engine warning managment light had been coming on an off for a while but was only orange not red so was going to take it in when i had the chance. I do drive the car hard somtimes!!!!

I have spoken to a good macanic and he said it is very unlikley and in the 25years he's been a macanic he's only done 5 head gaskets on VW Golf's. said it was somthing eles to do with the rad hose.

Can anyone advise?

the temp gauge only rises when the car is idle, like at a stop light or the heat is on, with the blower on. I have been told to flush the radiator, is that going to work or could it be a leak in head gasket?
