If it were bad to drive your car with less than a quarter of a tank of fuel, there would be millions of cars on the side of the road with problems. There's not. That should tell you something. It tells me that whoever told you that "it is considered unhealthy for your car to drive around with a quarter tank or less of gas" is not the "expert" you think he is. I say he because men are uneducated bonerheads when it comes to cars, and a lot of them want to sound smart so they make up crap like this. Women, for all their faults, tend to keep their mouths shut and go to a mechanic instead. A lot of people think there's tons of sediment in the bottom of the fuel tank, or gallons of water just waiting for that gauge to hit a quarter so they can suck in to the fuel line and choke your engine and cost you thousands. Again, there's not. Such a thing is rare. The only major consequence to going below a quarter tank is that you are much more likely to run out of gas before you find a gas station. And remember that gas gauges lie. Sometimes they read a quarter but you really have an eighth. The consequence is that you'll be walking.

Its not and obviously most of these people have never taken a gas tank out of a car. If they did they would see that the fuel pump is on the bottom of the tank and therefore it is realistically always sucking up dirt then according to these people. Also that is what the fuel filter is for no matter what you do the fuel pump will suck some dirt through it that is why your car has a fuel filter it stops that dirt or at least most of it from entering the engine.

Because there are particles in your gas tank and when you let it go to 1/4 tank or less, the gas line Willl suck up the particles and it wil clog your fuel injection and your gas line. Then after a while your car will sputter like it's not getting enough gas, and you will have to have the fuel injections and fuel line flushed. Just a unnecessary waste of money for something you can prevent.

The fuel pump needs to remain totally submerged in gasoline for proper cooling to prevent premature failure. A gas tank with too much air space is prone to developing more moisture in the tank (condensation of the air especially in winter) - this causes water in the gas and rust to the tank. Most cars now have "LOW FUEL" lights come on - as soon as you see this light, get some gas.

When you drive with less than a 1/4 tank of gas, your fuel pump is working harder and may cause the fuel pump to stop working and if there is any contaminates in your tank it may clog the fuel filter as well.

Say you are sucking on a strawberry shake with hunks of strawberry in it not just pretend strawvberry like McDonald's. Anyway, you get towards the end of the shake and you're trying to suck up a chunk of strawberry through the straw.

You have to work harder to suck it up and when and if you do it might get stuck part of the way up your straw.

Well the same thing happens with your fuel pump and\or any sediment in the bottom of your gas tank.

It's not.
If your fuel pump is mounted to the tank, it's going to be on the bottom anyway (that's why the car doesn't cut out going uphill; the gas is always closest to the pump).
You can run your gas down 'til the warning light comes on with no ill effects.
