I bought a 99 Olds Alero 3.4 2 weeks ago.1st thing I did was check the oil,was okay.A week later I noticed a ticking noise that went away after the car warmed up.Each day the ticking would last a bit longer- until today I noticed the ticking was consistantly VERY loud and when I rev the engine or accelerate the car sounded like a lawn mower.I finally wised up and cheked the oil(remember previously full) and it was barely touching the dip stick.I rushed to fill it up and the ticking finally faded away after about 20 miles. Now the ticking is gone but its running just a TAD rougher, like the timing is a little off but the car is okay.I also noticed there is gunk in the overflow, probably from dex cool. The temp gauge is elevating slightly-little less than 3/4- the fan kicks on and it cools right down.Anyway, I dont see any oil leaks and I know its time for a flush.Any ideas on whats going on? Yes...I know I should have checked the oil but the oil sensor or oil change sensor never triggered

Ok, sometimes when I have my car on and I have it parked, it makes this really loud noise, like a loud "dooooo" noise, and it'll do that off and on, and even when its parked my car will sound like its accelerating. Well it did it today while I was driving and my car just stalled in the middle of the road.

Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? I plan on taking it to the shop soon, but I'm a little nervous driving it to school tomorrow.

I took off the bottom part of the dash and I can hear it clicking but I just can't seem to find it. I felt around to see if I can feel it clicking, am I in the wrong spot? It's an '88 Chevy Celebrity. It's not by the fuse box. and its not in a spot that I can see easily while laying on the floor with the bottom of the dash off. I hear it clicking to the lower left of the steering wheel but there is a metal plate in the way. Any suggestions?

I have a 91 Toyota Celica ST with a 1.6 Liter engine, but the smog place ran the test as a 2.2 liter and my car failed the emissions test. Does the engine size make a huge difference when running the test?

(continued) steering is jacked up and the front bumper came off. Here's where I need your help!!!!: I'm really just going to dump it on a salvage yard, and take whatever they'll give me for it tomorrow (It's at my place right now). But I have to lie to my boyfriend, who lives about 30 minutes away, and say that the car broke down and I took it to a shop and they said that "It's gonna be about $2000 to fix", which of course is about double what the piece of crap was actually worth, thus justifying me taking it to the junkyard and not wanting to fix - or so the story will go. My question is this: What kind of repair on a '97 Tercel would cost $1700-$2000???? Just give me anything, something, I need your help here!. I just can't tell him that I got in another accident!!!! I have a bad driving record and have a reputation for getting into accidents. I don't wanna lie, but I have to this time. I'm not gonna see him again till Wednesday, so please HELP ME!!! Any advice is appreciated!!!!!!!!

The mechanic used too much force and valve cover bolt stripped the threads off the cylinder head. I found this out after the "repairs'' were made a few years ago. "There is no legal recourse," the shop told me.

Has anyone had any experience with adhesive thread repair? I found a thread repair adhesive made by Permatex pn#81668. with the permatex product?

ok here i go again. i want to change the differential oil in my 04 dakota. the dealer wants 130$ to do the job. i have already bought some royal purple 75w-140w synthetic gear oil because i was going to do the job myself. now after careful consideration and some sound advice from others i have decided to let another auto shop do the job for 40$ so that my warranty will still be valid. the problem is that i was told that i needed to add some limited slip additive to the oil? according to the royal purple website you do not need to add the limited slip additive when using max gear?? anyopne with some personal experience with this please advise. thanks!!
