ok here i go again. i want to change the differential oil in my 04 dakota. the dealer wants 130$ to do the job. i have already bought some royal purple 75w-140w synthetic gear oil because i was going to do the job myself. now after careful consideration and some sound advice from others i have decided to let another auto shop do the job for 40$ so that my warranty will still be valid. the problem is that i was told that i needed to add some limited slip additive to the oil? according to the royal purple website you do not need to add the limited slip additive when using max gear?? anyopne with some personal experience with this please advise. thanks!!

With a limited slip differential id recomend you follow the manufacture recomended fluid type, some require you use a synthetic gear oil, other might recomend a non-synthetic gear oil a long with the limited slip additive. The best bet is to look in the onwers manual and see what it says, and follow what is says. if it says the rear end takes 75w-140 synthetic gear oil then the royal purple will work. With the limited slip rear end not following what the manufacter recomends will lead to a failure of the limited slip and lead to costly repairs.

I've used Royal Purple oil and power steering fluid with satisfaction. If it were my ride I wouldn't add anything but the best thing to do would be to contact Royal Purple and ask them. Or if it's bugging you that much return the RP max gear and have the shop put whatever they recommend in.

Yous houldn't ought to upload "friction modifier" or something for that remember once you're employing kit oil that's spectacular on your application. in case you have a constrained slip differential, any kit oil with the spectacular weight will do, yet some have particular labels that say "alright for use with LSD". the reality is, it relatively would not remember at the instant.

Never used it but I know its the best, for performance vehicles. I wouldn't know about ordinary vehicles.
