I'm installing a H.O alternater 160 in my GMC truck 1995.
Do I need to upgrade the cable on the positive side and also do I need a in line fuse put in that line.
Heck it's a four gage wire,so I don't know just what I need to do,can any one send me to the right place to get this answer.
Also they say something about having this four gage attached to the back post on the alternater.

As far as I know the wiring is the same. I worked for a tow truck company as a mechanic and the alternator was up to 250 amps and it ran the regular positive and negative

No you don't have to upgrade anything. You can if you would like upgrade to some 2 gauge wire all the way around from the battery to the starter, from the alt. to the battery, and the battery to ground. This will help your vehicle get a better charge and may even help it start better.

Most likely you won't need to replace any wires. Make sure you get a good ground. How much amperage are you increasing? About 75amp increase is fine.

That output cable is going to connect to the battery. From there, what loads you have, or add to the circuit should be protected by their own fuses. Fuses, or fusible links from the battery should protect the alternator.

4 gauge is more than enough. So is 160 amp unless you are running some elaborate sound or light system.
