The brakes in our car are not working, my first thought is that we need new brake pads, but my boyfriend said that it could be the brake fluid, so we pored some brake fluid but it's still the same.
He looked under the car and said that there's something broken which is leaking the brake fluid.
Does anyone have an idea of what it cost to fix this???
He's an idiot and I told him to talk to someone who knows about cars to find out what it may cost, but he just wont. He's making it look like its's alot of money. I think he just wants us to get a new car.

When the breaks are pressed the car slows down but does not come to a complete stop. It makes a small sound too.

well... You can take it to Meineke or Midas.. they give free est...

meaning they will pull the car into the bay for free and tell you what is wrong with it... for no charge...

but as far as the leak goes... was there a leak before he put fluid into the system? Brake fluid like all fluid can not be compressed... or made smaller... so if the system was full and he put more in it... it has to come out when the piston pushes it...so it cames out at the master cylinder...

now what do you mean they are not working? the brakes have alot of parts... pads, rotors. calb. master cyclinder. power boosters, lines lots of stuff that can " brake" HA!!! I make myself laugh....

anyway I would goto Meineke or Midas first... then you know

If you have money for a new car, thats's great. I would have a professional check the brake problem. Very bad things can happen when the brakes are not up to par!

sounds to me like you have a leaking brake line or wheel cylinder or caliper, take it to the shop and have them go all over the brake system, I think it sounds like you need new brake pads too, could get expensive.

,you wont know till you have someone look at it that knows what they are doing don't mess with it its very dangerous break line should be less expensive and that is most likely the problem call break place for an estimate could be master cylinder or break line ,don't drive it you could get killed
