It means that your catalytic converter is bad. The catalytic converter cleans the air by helping the car re-burn excess fuel. Sulfur is one of the by-products of burning fuel. That rotton egg smell is the sulfur. If the car has very high mileage, say 150,000, then the catalytic converter has worn from age and use. If the car has less than say 75,000 miles, then the car probably has another problem that led to the "cat" becoming bad. The fuel system has to be inspected then because your problem might be an "overfuel" condition. If you keep driving with a bad cat, then you'll waste gas, and once it becomes clogged with fuel by-product, the engine will weaken to the point of shutting down.

The rotten eggs smell is hydrogen sulphide (gas). Whilst this can be the result of a failing catalytic converter there can be another cause, especially if you don't have such a cat.converter fitted. Your battery may be sulphating due to neglect, low electrolyte levels or over-heating causing the plates to start disintegrating and giving off the gas. Other symptoms include difficulty in starting the engine and a high charge rate on your ammeter. You may wish to have your battery tested.

well, I agree with the others, it is a catalytic converter, but just because the converter is going bad doesnt mean that is the problem. The converter going out could be a symptom of another issue such as over fueling, o2 sensor etc. so dont just replace the converter, you need to make sure that is the only problem or you will be replacing it again soon. Just for the record the converter takes unburned hydrocarbon and converts it to water(less dangerous than carbon monoxide) which is why you see water dripping out the tailpipe.

Quite normal for a catalytic converter that hasn't warmed up yet.
May also be a "cat" that's on it's way out.
