my car never over heats but the temperature guage goes over halfway. when i am coasting down hill or sitting still the guage goes higher when i am at normal driving it seems to be ok, when i am coasting and or sitting still and the temp guage is 3/4 hot the air comming out of the heater is cold, as soon as i take off and accelerate the air becomes warm, i am not for sure if it is the radiator, water pump, or a head gasket, it looses very little water during this action, maybe 6 or 8 ounces, i hate to pay 4 or 5 hundred dollars to get head gaskets put on and still have the problem, by the way there is no water in the oil or no oil in the water, which is most common in blown head gaskets, i appreciate any answers on this matter

your coolant level is a little low. add coolant and have your system pressure tested. this will help determine if there is a leak and where it is. this does not sound like a head gasket problem. if the head gasket where the cause you symptoms would be reversed.(your engine temp would rise when driving not coasting or sitting still)
