My Vectra is burning oil. Its mile are quite high and i think that some of the piston rings may have broken. Is it worth getting fixed?

the quickest way out of this in my opinion would be to change the engine complete, go to any good scrap yard and you will find one at a good price, but just make sure you have it checked out by a mechanic first, you can change an engine in only one day, so your costs wont be two much more than the price of the engine, other than that your looking at big bucks,
best of luck brian.

If the millage is high, your unlikely to get away with just fitting new rings, the bores are likely to be worn as well, then while your doing that you may want to look at the having the crank reground and new bearings fitted. In short, source out a re-con engine, its going to be less hassle in the long run.You could try a breakers yard, but are you up to removing and fitting? If the millage is high, have you thought what might be next to go,clutch, shocks, water pump, etc, maybe you could think of trading in.

if the rings are broken the piston ring grove will be damaged. it's more likely that overheating has caused the rings to become plastic and sieze in the pistons. if replacement is considered the bores must be property honed to break the glaze (not rubbed round with sandpaper) to allow new rings to bed in otherwise the bores will tear the new rings to shreads.

if you like the car get it fixed but when you buy the rings they come in set of however many pisitons you have you just can't but one but the whole downer is paying some one to ddue the work it like rebuilding the motor so if you are going to change the rings you will be better of buying a complete rebuild kit for you car

You're basically talking a rebuild and I would be inclined to think some where between $2000-$3000 done correctly!
