i recently bought a second hand car with 12 months mot. within 2 weeks i was having problems with engine overheating . i took it back to the car dealers and they said there wasnt a problem with it when it left the forecourt and that if the gasket was even on its way out it wouldnt v passed the emissions test on the MOT..so he says he isnt accepting responsability for it but would pay half towards the bill of sorting it out.. does this seem fair ? have i been had ? also when he sold me the car he give me the mot certificate on its own even though there was an advisory note issued.. should i av been given this advisory note..? and there was no emissions test result with it..should i also av been given this..?.what im asking is does anyone know if he as committed any offences by not giving me these attatchments to the MOT..just so i could at least make him pay the full amount for the repairs..Thanks..

I have a 2001 Tracker with just over 100K miles on it. It has developed a serious water leak (fresh water, not coolant). It occurred suddenly. We had some fairly heavy rains the last few days and it is puddling water in the drivers foot well. After a rainy night there was nearly an inch of standing water. No other parts of the car's interior are getting wet. Careful inspection of the drivers door didn't show anything suspicious. The weather stripping is in tact with no indication of water past the stripping. The threshold is dry also. I think it is coming through the firewall but so far I haven't been able to isolate the source.

Has anyone experienced something like this?
Were you able to stop the leak?
If so, what did you do?
Is this a common Tracker problem?

I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX. Yesterday morning, the starter motor cranked, but the car wouldn't start. (We tried repeatedly.) Today, it started right up on the first try. What's likely to be the problem?

I hear a high pitched squealing sound coming from back of this engine. The sound appears to be close to the center of the engine about half a foot above the crankshaft center. It loudest when it is cold, the engine is first started and is in tune with engine RPM. One mechanic said it was the distributor but the engine has none. Anyone have an idea of the cause? It is an OHV not an OHC.
Thanks
Ken

Hey guys,
I changed my oil if Ford Focus ZX3 car about 2 weeks ago. I filled it up with premium Mobile 1 synthetic oil. It was very clean when I filled it up, I couldn't even see the level, that how clean it was. However, yesterday after i checked it, it has become a lot darker... I mean it is not very dark, but it just became darker. And since I loaded with that new oil, I had driven only about 600 miles.
Is this OK, or should something be done?
Thanks...

This problem has been occurring more and more frequently for months. I'll be driving on the freeway (seems to happen at high speeds) and all of a sudden, the top dashboard light (an exclamation point in a starburst) comes on, and the car just jumps into neutral, effectively making my car freeze up out of the blue at high rates of speed. The engine seems to kick back in after a second or two. This can happen several times in a day, or not occur for a week or two afterwards.

I took it to a mechanic about 3-4 weeks ago who said he figured it out and replaced my DPFE (differential pressure.... something... I don't know car mechanics at all). I thought this fixed the problem, until it started occurring again a few days ago. This morning it happened at 70+ MPH and nearly killed me in the fast lane.

Please help me with an answer, and not a "Ford sucks" answer. I'm kind of scared for my life here.

When I go over a speed bump while turning, the front end over the right tire makes a groaning noise, and I was wondering what it could be.

It does not make any noise when going over bumps in straight line. i also replaced control arm bracket a few weeks ago.

I suspect this is a fuel or charging issue, but I don't know where to go next. Any suggestions would be helpful. I also had one person tell me the catalytic converter might be bad.

I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM and it keeps showing signs of overheating. Whenever I have the heat on for a certain amount of time the thermostat goes up, almost to the peak temperature but when I turn on the cool air it goes back to the half way zone. Also when I accelerate in the beginning of driving my car I would hear this bubbling sound. What's up with that. Please help. Why do I always have car trouble when I get a lot of money.

I brought My Rover 100 Knightsbridge (P reg) for my 1st car. It only cost me £120. It was holding back but it had not been driven for 18 months. When i got it home and put water in we noticed that there was mayonnaise type gunge in the water, we drove it to a garage and when we removed the water cap again the water was full of dark brown liquid. Ive been told that this is a blown head gasket.
How much would this cost to fix and is it worth fixing on a car that i only paid £120 for? Ive been told that this keeps happening on these cars and they cant guarantee that it will work when its done and that i should just either:
a) drive it until the engine goes or
b) scrap the car.
Does anyone think that its worth getting fixed?

I have a 94 Mitsubishi Diamante. I'm fully aware that I'm always going to have issues with my car since it's old but whatever. I got my starter replaced, spark plugs and so forth. For some reason I'm still having issues starting my car... Some people have said because it's the cold, or that you need at least half a tank during the winter when it's really really cold out.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Btw, I also placed Heet into my tank.

I know you should wash the salt off of your car to prevent rust, but usually after a wash the car just becomes salt covered again the next day. Is it really worth it to spend $5-10$ on a car wash just to get the salt off for one day?

When I brake there is a ratteling noise, it also pulls to the right quite a bit. I have heard that it could maybe be the U-Joint but I am not sure. It is all time 4 wheel drive if anyone has any clue as to what it might be please let me know.

The battery has died and I must either face towing the vehicle to a garage or replacing it myself. Quite honestly, I am much more confident tearing out a computer's hard drive than a vehicle's battery. After all, what really matters is the color of the car - right? Is this something that a relatively handy person, albiet a mechanically challenged one, do? Is there anything I should be careful about?

I have a 1995 Honda Accord. I have 2 serpentine belts. One goes to the powersteering and the other one goes to the a/c and alternator. They are right on top of each other, sort of. Well the one on the bottom is all torn and shredded. Do you know which one that is? Thank you

Do any of them overlap the others? eg. If I get the tracking done, would that mean I wouldn't need one of the other 2 done? Also, should any of these 3 ONLY be done on one set of wheels (eg. front or back) or is it ok to get them all done on both the front and back wheels. I know nothing about cars and am sure I don't ask for the right things when I go into a garage and I sometimes think I ask them to do stuff that doesn't need doing (eg. would tracking be done to the back wheels?)! I'd like to have the definitive guide on what should and shouldn't be done please!! Thank you.
