My "sensor" light came on in the dash panel. I noticed the temperature gauge rise slightly. I looked up the sensor light in the chilton manual and it says it only applies to the oxygen sensor, and should be deactivated. When I got home I noticed I could smell that the engine was hot. It was not overheating, but the temperature gauge on the dash showed it was hotter than normal operating temp. I dont know what to check as to why the electric cooling fans are not coming on (ie., a fuse maybe?) or how this could be related to the "sensor" light on my dash.

if you suspect that a postive (hot) wire is grounding out on the undercarriage, do you disconnect the negative cable and touch a test light to the negative battery terminal and the negative cable connector?

if i charge the battery it will run for a couple of hours until the battery is drained and it dies. if i take off the negative cable, it will keep running (with the charged battery), so the alternator must be fine. electrical components do not work quite right. the wiper blades are slow, if the battery is really drained, the stereo and heater fan wont work at the same time.
A couple of months ago the battery died and when i tried to boost it it wouldn't boost, so after deliberation i found out that both the battery and alternator were no good. so i replaced them. that night there were some rather large sparkes and electrical action when i connected the cables, and after ward the alt. fuses wer blown so i replaced them. i dont know if that has any thing to do with now.
its been really cold this week -20c and the fan belt has been squeeling mildly since this started

I am going to spray paint an automotive urethane paint on my 20 year old bass boat that has a badly degraded gel coat finish. Should I use a HVLP or a LVLP spray gun? And what is the difference between the two?

We had some freezing rain tonight and I wanted to get some ice off my car, I tried opening the frozen passenger door to get the ice scraper and pulled very hard thinking the ice would break before the door handle would come off. Should I try superglue or is there a better solution? I don't really want to take it to a garage, its my back door on the passenger side which is very rarely used anyway. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated and thank you very much for your input.

Lets say a typical mechanic with about 3-5 years experience at an average corner shop in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, or Buffalo. And let's also say he has most of his certifications but really doesn't specialize in any particular thing. He's just an all around mechanic.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with a factory installed block heater. I live in Canada, eh? I want to use a timer to turn the block heater on in order to save electricity. If I leave home at 8 a.m., at what time should the heater turn on, in order to do an optimal heating job without wasting electricity, by running the block heater for longer than it needs to be run? Is this time dependent on the outdoor temperature? Thanks, - Tom

As soon as I get moving or rev the engine, it immediately goes back to blowing hot air. I had the problem last year and my mechanic said there was an air bubble? somewhere and he put it up on some sort of lift that could tilt that is for truck work and somehow got it out. Whatever he did, it worked and now it's doing it again and the same thing is happening in our other vechicle!!! When the problem happened last year, 2 other mechanics, previous to ours (Dealers!) said it was fixed and it wasn't and cost me almost $300. When our mechanic finally got a hold of it, he charged me just for his time and it WAS fixed, until recently. What the heck are we doing wrong? I have never had this happen with any of the many vehicles we have owned, new or used, in my life!! The vehicle that has and once again is giving us the problem is 10 years old but the other vehicle that has just started doing the same thing is under a year old. What the heck is going on?

I've taken it 3 times to the same mechanic as well as a certified smog check station(for California) and all tell me the same thing. Short of buying a new truck, which I cannot afford right now, what can I do?

After I was in an accident a few months back. I shut it off, went into the sheriffs station and filed my police report, got back into the vehicle, drove it into my garage, put a cover over my Sebring LXi and started saving money to fix it. The damage is all to the rear end. It has sat in my garage for a few months now but when I tried to start it today I got nothing. When I put the key in I got nothing not a single light or ding out of it. I tryed jumping the battery but still got nothing. I was told that there was a fuel reset button that might need to be pushed, but i still expected the car to at least register the key was in the ignition. Any ideas?

i took my minivan in for some repairs. it was running pretty rough when sitting at an idle. they said it was from the throttle body need to be cleaned and an additive for the fuel. this van has 25K miles and ive only put 2K on it. would the cleaning help it?

they also said that cold air lowers your mpg. i thought cold air would help it. which one is it?
