How to use a test light to find a ground fault?

if you suspect that a postive (hot) wire is grounding out on the undercarriage, do you disconnect the negative cable and touch a test light to the negative battery terminal and the negative cable connector?

If you suspect the hot is grounding on the undercarriage, you should yes disconnect the negative cable then touch the test light on the negative battery terminal and the undercarriage.
