i guy is asking me 5k for a 2001 4x4 isuzu ... my question would be more like "is it worth it if it has 100,000 miles on it already?" the car has been well mantained and it still looks good. please give me some advice. thank you :)

any engines lifespan is determined by two things: preventative maintenance, and driving style. it really does not matter at all if the car looks nice if the engine has been neglected or abused. if the seller is saying that the car has been "well maintained" then ask to see the service records or bills to prove how much he has put into it. if the car has 100,000 miles on it already, then there should be several items that should have been replaced already. not sure if your Isuzu would have a timing belt (probably) or chain (unlikely), but that should have been done already. it's probably worth a look at the transmission/4x4 system in addition to the engine. since it's a 4x4, the suspension may have taken a beating off road as well.
remember, if you are serious about buying a certain used vehicle, then it's money well spent to have a mechanic you trust (not the one selling the car!!) spend a couple of hours checking it over. you may end up spending the cost of his labour finding out you brought him a lemon, but that's a lot cheaper than finding that out after you bought it and it leaves you on the side of the road somewhere.

No matter how well serviced a car may be - a good guide is to allow for 15,000 miles per year. So, on a 2001 car 90,000 would be about right for a bargain. I'd ask them to drop the price at least $1,000.

I HAVE AN ISUZU TROOPER 2004 AND IT HAS OVER 100,000 MILES MAKES A TERRIBLE TICKING SOUND WHICH IS COMMON OF THESE VEHICLES WITH THAT MANY MILES BUT STILL RUNS GREAT. IT HAS BEEN THE BEST VEHICLE I EVER PURCHASED. I HAVE FOUND THAT MOST PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE I THINK THEY ARE WONDERFUL . I WILL BUY ONE AGAIN . IN FACT I TOOK MINE TO A MECHANIC ABOUT THE TICK AND HE SAID TO DRIVE IT TILL IT DROPS,BECAUSE IT COSTS TO MUCH TO FIX AT IT'S AGE,WELL THAT WAS 2 YEARS AGO. HOPE THIS INFO HELPS YOU.

Depends on if it's blowing blue smoke yet, and if the valves sound like they are going to explode.

If it isn't already, it will be soon.
