My "sensor" light came on in the dash panel. I noticed the temperature gauge rise slightly. I looked up the sensor light in the chilton manual and it says it only applies to the oxygen sensor, and should be deactivated. When I got home I noticed I could smell that the engine was hot. It was not overheating, but the temperature gauge on the dash showed it was hotter than normal operating temp. I dont know what to check as to why the electric cooling fans are not coming on (ie., a fuse maybe?) or how this could be related to the "sensor" light on my dash.

It's the thermo-switch most likely. This unit on my Nissan Multi is mounted at the bottom left side of rad. you can check your actual fans first by unhooking the switch and putting power directly to fans and see if they come on.

It sounds like the radiator temperature sensor is at fault. It is usually located on the side of the radiator or on top. When it seems like it is hot, and you have located the radiator temp switch, try shorting the two wires going to it. The cooling fan should come on. If they do, that's your problem.

yes, basically fan is for cooling the engine. maybe you should replace the fan or check for relays and connection. you can turn off the engine then switch on the key at acc. position then turn on the fan switch at the air con side of the dashboard. both engine fan should be working by then ,if not well its either you replace the carbon brush of the fan or replace the fan motor.
