Hey guys,
I changed my oil if Ford Focus ZX3 car about 2 weeks ago. I filled it up with premium Mobile 1 synthetic oil. It was very clean when I filled it up, I couldn't even see the level, that how clean it was. However, yesterday after i checked it, it has become a lot darker... I mean it is not very dark, but it just became darker. And since I loaded with that new oil, I had driven only about 600 miles.
Is this OK, or should something be done?
Thanks...

There is always residue from the old oil in the engine that will discolor the new oil. Most oil change stations now use a pump inserted through the dip stick hole to extract the maximum amount of the old oil.

Before changing your oil next time make sure that the engine is at full operating temperature, (drive it for 15 - 20 mins) to thin the oil as much as possible, this will also help to remove the majority of the old oil and crud. Always change the oil filter at the same time, Some filters will actually retain about a quart of the dirty oil...

The reason the oil gets darker is it is constantly deteroriating due to "blow by" of hot gases from the cylinders right into the oil itself. Oil that gets dirty very fast as youve described is an indicator of poor piston rings, or damaged or worn cylinders in the engine. A new engine has "tight" parts and very little BlowBy occurs, thus the oil stays pure clear for many many miles.

Its gonna get darker cause just changing the the oil wont get all the old oil and crud out of the engine.

Oil is designed to clean as well as lubricate. If your engine had no dirt at all, the oil will stay cleaner longer. All engines have blow-by which is combustion gasses getting by the piston rings and the oil will suspend this and get dirty.

Don't worry. It's normal for oil to get darker.
