I take my car to the shop for one problem, the guy checks it out and does a complete inspection of my car and repairs those problems too. He says its covered by warranty, and the total cost covered was almost $3,000 worth of repairs. He only charges me for what I brought the car in for - only $100.

I also get a call back from him the day after I pick up the car. He says I picked up the car after he got off work and he wanted to see how everything was doing and he was checking up on me.

Does he sound interested?

I have an '84 S-10 that hasnt been running right. I took it to a mechanic and after a couple days, they said the carberetor needs to be replaced. I asked the guy over the phone if he had checked the vacuum hoses/lines (there were quite a few hoses not connected under the hood). He said they checked them but it was not the problem. Before I took my truck to the mechanic, I gave it a tune-up: plugs, wired, cap, rotor, and fuel system cleaner. My question is, what will happen if my truck is still being run without vacuum hoses being connected even with a new carberutor? Thanks.

Also, I took it to the mechanic because the truck wanted to shut off when I hit the gas.

The clutch in my 200tdi disco is very high. I've looked at the Haynes Manual but they don't say how I can adjust it so that it's lower.

Any Ideas?

I just went to move my car out of the snow and a neighbor told me that my right rear tire is not spinning. It was fine yesterday in the snow, today there is more ice. I drove anyway and this terrible squeaking/squealing sound occured and smoke from the tire. I don't know what to do.

I have a 2000 Ford Escort. It has 130,000 miles. When my foot is off the gas it starts coughing almost immediately when its warm or cold, then it dies but will restart fine. If it coughs for a minute or two before it dies, the inside of the car starts smelling like exhaust or gas or something I cant tell. I have replaced plugs, wires, air idle control valve, new gasket seals, and it says check engine. I always have to 2-foot it to be able to drive.

We have a 1988 Toyota Corolla. Yes it's very old, but it still keeps on running...we got well over a foot of snow yesterday and the car was not buried but it was well-covered. It took a snow SHOVEL to get the bulk of the snow off the car. Anyway, it took me rapidly pumping the accelerator for a good thirty seconds to try to start the car, and it took three or four attempts at doing that to finally get the car started. (It did crank after all that and now it seems to be fine.) I thought for sure I was flooding the engine but it seemed the more I pumped, the closer it got to starting. Is it going to be like this after every snowstorm?? And why? Am I doing damage to the car by trying to start it this way? I don't know of any other way, and we have to have this car, as our other one is on the blink right now. Advice and suggestions from experienced mechanics welcome. Thx. :)

in a ford 89 tempo. everytime i drive at night and i hit the brakes my car stales and needs a jump to restart. i have a brand new alternator starter and battery. i think the brake switch is shorting everything else out because when i hit the brakes the lights dont go on, but once i tap a little wire next to the pedal with my other foot then the lights go on. also with this problem when the wire connects it makes a funny noise.i can only go about a mile or so before the car goes out and needs another jump.

The night of the blizzard, it took me about an hour to park my car on a side street. I was continuosly getting stuck and my tires were constantly spinning fast. Also, I noticed the next day that there were ice/snow stuck between the body of my car and tires...so I made sure to scrape them off. My car feels a little better but not 100%.

1995 Ford Escort Wagon. Automatic. Nearly 166,000 miles. Transmission has been bogging (refused to shift into higher gears despite high rpms) lately. I attributed this to the extreme cold this winter. The engine will turn over and idle. When I hit the gas, the car just sits there. not a twitch from the wheels. Have I blown the tranny? Is it worth spending the money to fix this?

response to some of your comments:

-The "bic lighter" was a gift. It has served me well for many years. I knew it was only a matter of time before the thing fell apart on me.
-I have tried to drive it in every gear. NOTHING.
-No leaks I can see.
-I have minimal auto repairs skills, I do have some tools
-Never changed tranny fluid in 4 years. Didnt even know there was a tranny filter.

Drove fine one minute, nothing the next. I over-revved the engine pulling out of snowbanks many times this week. Connection?

What is a clutch plate? What is the transaxle? Can I diagnose problems with those myself?

Peace, JB

I have a 91 chevy s10 2.8l v6, i replaced the plug wires and plugs, it was way over do. While i was replacing them i broke a couple of vacuum lines, there were only three. All three vaccum lines are very brittle. The truck ran ok with out them though so i thought no big deal. A week later on the highway the truck wouldn't get up to power, bogged severly. Now, the engine dies and sounds like a sick b-52 during take off, sometimes a lawnmower when in gear trying to move (loses all power under a load). I just replaced the manual transmission had it proffessionally rebuilt. I used the self flash test and got error code 33 (map sensor high) and error code 34 (map sensor low), I dont have a meter to mesure voltage and dont want to replace it if I don't need to. I already replaced the fuel filter, the spark plugs and wires, rotar cap and distributor cap. I also recieved error code 21 (idle switch circut open or WOT switch circut shorted) and 22 (fuel cut solenoid circuit open or grounded.
