95 Escort? I'm very sorry about that. What can I say? Never buy a bic lighter car like an Escort . CV joints just don't break. They do make noise and that's about it. The cluth packs in your transaxle are probably toast if there is fluid in it. If it is low or out of fluid do not add transmission fluid, add a product called Trans-X untill it is up to level. That is your only chance if the fluid is low or out but then it means you have a leak because trans fluid does not evaporate. Best bet? Get closure with the sled. Yunk it and dress warm. Remember this next time no bic lighter.

Have you tried in any other gear than drive. Reverse, low, first. Anythng happen? A belt may need tightening inside the transmission or it may need trans fluid? Needsw to go to a repair shop( any garage mechanic can do it.) That includes the CV and that would be obvious by looking under the car.

Check the fluid level on the dipstick to see if it is full. If it is too low the pump will not work and it will just sit there
If you have fluid and it is full I believe the seals in the transmission might be all dried up. The fluid will spin around past the pump or shafts internally and not go. A rebuild might be in order but is up to your budget.
.Have any tools? You might try to pull one from a parts car, but it may have a similar problem.

id be willing to bet the tranny is toast, depending whether its EVER been serviced which most arent, and having the mileage it has, im sure its gone, if you must fix it, id get a rebuilt one or maybe one from a junkyard that can VERIFY the mileage ,and then have it at teh very least flushed and serviced, adn posibly rebuilt, i wouldnt waste my time or money on a new one... but another car before you go that route.
good luck

Your clutch plate needs adjusting or replacing due to worn out after long years of use. The clutch plate connects the engine output to your tranny.
