1993 Volvo 850 sedan. It is COLD outside (-5 F), and when I start it up, the coolant light is on for a few minutes, but then goes off. When I go to turn on / adjust the fan, the fan does not come on.

Would a bad thermostat or low coolant kill the power to the heater fan motor?

Thank You

What is the best automatic car starter for a DIY'er? I found something in google today from http://automatic-car-starter.com/ and it seems like there are two systems, anyone had any experience with either of them? One is a bulldog, the other is a designtech.

Ethanol contains some water which means it will "mix" with water. The purpose of "dry gas" or "gas line antifreeze" is it mixes with water and gas (gas and water will not mix alone). We use a 10% ethanol mix in our city, does this mean I no longer have to use "dry gas"? If not, can anyone explain why. Thanks

My car (Chevrolet Cavalier 2002) is dead and I decided that I'm going to change the battery myself. I've read how to do it but I have one question. My car has a remote control starter in it and I was wondering if I had to do something different to install the battery? Will the starter work after the change or I have to program it or something? If it will not work tell me what to do step by step to fix it

I've had so much work done I am at the end of my ROPE!

No check engine lights are on. At all. Starts fine [its northern Canada -38 today!]. It is running rougher then usual, seems to hesitate when changing speed [slower -> faster etc]. Also if I stand outside and listen to it, it sounds a little like a jet engine [about twice a minute for a few seconds] and has a weird on-and-off again chirping sound like it is full of dead mice :P

The only thing I have done different since getting it fixed is add some gasline antifreeze [yes it was the proper type] to a full tank of gas because with the windchill it is -50 C . Any ideas? - can I have a major problem without a check engine light coming on?

Thanks for the help!

I have a 2000 Jetta VR6, trying to change the battery but I cannot get the old one out. Auto stores I called said it was a size 12, tried that not fitting a round one or 5 or 6 sided, nothing will fit it to take it off. I tried a 11, 12, 13 none fit, 12 was the closest but wouldnt go down on it all the way. Is there something different because of the make of the car? Can anyone help me out?

I put my keys in the ignition after driving all day long. I cannot turn my ignition/starter at all. It is stuck/won't move. The car cannot be turned on at all in other words! The brake and the steering wheel seem to be less mobile than usual. I do not know what's wrong or what I can do! Please help quickly!

my ford fiesta has had an electrical problem for a while now. the fuel gauge would drop all the way down at random times, the engine would shudder and the fog lights would come on.
I have replaced the alternator and that has made no difference.
I have just removed the headlights to fit a new bumper and now they dont work, the car has trouble starting and will cut out as soon as any electrical device is applied (reverse light, headlight, etc..) and both of the indicators are constantly on.

There is definatly a short somewhere but i have no idea where.

does anyone no how to diagnose and repair a short, or how much it would cost to be repaired?

(might have to get the aa to come and have a look as it wont drive at all now without cutting out)

I have a 98 Dodge Avenger ES 6 cylinder. On only very COLD days, when I start my car, it would make a very loud screeching noise. This will go on for a few minutes, but eventually stops when the car has had a chance to warm up. I hope that it is nothing since it only makes the noise when the car is COLD, and then it stops. It never makes the noise when the weather is warmer. Should I get it checked?

I sorta know the answer to the basic question what I really want to know if it can how do I "freely" find out if it was in fact a damaged car before it was sold to me "brand new"? Or if anyone knows how someone could sale a damaged car as new that would help also.

I here a ratteling noise comming from my torque converter like somthing is rolling around inside. the transmission is a th400, (recentely rebuilt with high performance clutches with new torque converter) the engine (454 was rebuilt with higher compression 40oversize pistons 10:5 compression, some head porting and 286 cam (matched with the head flow), 850 holey) and makes much more power. but back to the noise what could it be, the tranny doesnt shift as hard and the noise is getting worse? also the car weighs approx 4,500 pounds and has a 3.23 ring and pinion ratio, the car has beat a 4,000 pound charger SRT8 (425hp) by about 5 cars, can someone estimate how much power the car actually makes.

I have a 1988 chevy blazer s10 2.8l v6 and I would like to know what are my choices to get the oil pressure running right.Changing the oil pump is totally out right now, because its too expensive(the whole engine has to be moved to do that). The truck rides good and starts up good, but just when it warms up the oil pressure check gauge light comes on and the pressure falls a little.I rather get it corrected before something else goes wrong from not having enough oil pressure.

I live in Minnesota and it's been really cold here lately. My car started yesterday after a few tries, so I ran it for around 20 minutes so it would start again today if I needed it. I went out to it and it wouldn't start at all. There was no clicking sound at all. There was pretty much no change from when it was off to when I tryed starting it. The temp gauge did rise a very little bit but it was noticable. What does this mean? Is my battery really frozen? Should I just get a new battery?
