Ford Explorer 2000
I put my keys in the ignition after driving all day long. I cannot turn my ignition/starter at all. It is stuck/won't move. The car cannot be turned on at all in other words! The brake and the steering wheel seem to be less mobile than usual. I do not know what's wrong or what I can do! Please help quickly!

I figured it out. All of you gave me very expensive advise. The only thing that was helpful was the fact that it was a "locked steering column" which I entered into Google and found out that all I needed to do was bang the key into the ignition with my hand while turning the wheel. It worked quickly and easily. I am glad I did not call a locksmith or a tow company.

I did something like that; the ignition lock was broken and had to be replaced. Can also be a key broken; if you can get the keys out, try a spare/call a locksmith.

Chances are the tumblers in the lock have come out of alignment-but, try rocking the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key. Make sure the front wheels are not held by the curb or wheel stop!

Ford has been having problems with the ignition cylinder breaking. You are the 5th person I've written to tonight with the same problem. I have had this myself not too long ago ('01 Ford Focus.) You'll need to have it towed to the dealer, I'm afraid. And it never hurts to ask if Ford will cover at least part of the cost, since this seems to be such a common problem. (I got lucky - still under warranty.)

That's happened to me too. Sometimes something just gets kinda stuck. Try shifting out and then back into park. Also try adjusting the tilt on your steering wheel or wiggling it side to side. Hope you get it started.

Jiggle your steering wheel! Then try it.
Also, make sure the car is in the Park position.
Good luck!

Hi
The key might have worn down. So when you put the key in it has nothing to connect to to make the engine start.
If you have a spare key, try that.
