What is the best automatic car starter for a DIY'er? I found something in google today from http://automatic-car-starter.com/ and it seems like there are two systems, anyone had any experience with either of them? One is a bulldog, the other is a designtech.

There are many many differant makes and models of remote starters. You get what you pay for. Starting from the lesser priced models that only start the car up to the ones that communicate back to you as to what is going on. Options are endless, unlock vehicle, unlock trunk, turn on lights etc etc. You don't mention the year, make and model of your car but anything with anti -theft requires another module in addition to the starter module to override the factory anti-theft system. Unless you are skilled in this area please don't attempt the installation yourself or you will learn the meaning of the word trouble.

First, I hope your car is automatic - it's illegal to fit them to a standard trans vehicle. Also, remember - if you can start the car from too far away, there is a chance that you could start the car accidentally. I have seen this happen - a friend leaned against his desk at work, then left work a few hours later to find his car was out of gas.
