My gf's TA needs new front and rear brakes. I would like to do them myself.

Can I use a C-Clamp to spread the calipers or do I need the special tool for this application?

Also, do I need anything special to pull the hubs and repack the wheel bearing or is it pretty straight forward and requiring only basic hand tools?

I'm an experienced mechanic, just not with this car. I like to ask before jumping into things.

Thanks in advance!

You know that older car smell (mold, mildew); what will get rid of it?

I have two symptoms that seem to be related:

1) A clicking sound, coming from below my dash. It sounds like a gear thats trying to turn, but can't so it clicks backward, only to try it again. It consistent too, like a heartbeat. Specifically, it is around the area where the radio wiring is.
2) My heater is not working. It blows air out, but it's not warm. I've verified absolutely that I do not have the A/C on by accident. The air does not feel cold per say, but it feels like air from outside being blown inside.

I've checked the fuses, and that doesn't seem to be the issue. Any help is appreciated. While I don't expect to be able to fix this myself, unless it's something reasonably simple, I would like to know what to expect should I take it to a mechanic. Thanks for your time.

I own an 83 Cutlass and yeah I know it's an old car but I'm working on it. Anyway one day I'm driving along and it's raining but my wipers don't work right so I have to use the mist thing to get them to work. Well it stops raining and my wipers are still going no big deal I wait 5 min and the are still going well I pull over and pull the fuse to see if that might stop it and guess what it doesn't. So when it rains I have to get under the dash and put the fuse back and when it stops pull it back out again. Can anyone please tell me what the hell I can do to fix this? Thanks.

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid (automatic). Could it be my transmission or maybe my fuel injector? When I press the gas its like its in neutral at first but then its like my car jumps into gear and then shoots forward or back if in reverse. Its been doing this for 3 days so far. Is a sign of something simple like not letting it warm up first or is it a sign of a major repair? Any quick fix suggestions?

p.s If it means anything its been cold as crap the last 3 days and everytime the car reacted this way I had just turned the car on.

It blows air, but it's not hot, or even warm. Is this going to be expensive to fix? Or should I just freeze all winter long?

My 2002 Ram with a 4.7 engine runs fine, but when I stop and the engine goes to idle, the oil pressure drops to zero and the check guages light comes on. The engine idles around 600 RPM. If I bump the throttle just a touch to about 1000 RPM the guage jumps right back into the normal range, then it drops to zero about 10 seconds later. It is fine while the truck is moving and the RPMs are above idle. I have changed the Oil and filter and the oil level is good. Any ideas?

My Camaro has a bad fuel gauge; it reads about 1/8 tank fuller than it actually is. In other words, when it gets to about 1/8 tank it runs out of gas, and it fills up way over the full mark all the way to where the gauge bottoms out.

Is it possible to pop the needle off and move it to where it should be, then but it back on? Or is there another fix?

4cyl. 5 speed auto Can it be set to any mileage that I want? How often should I change my oil/filter? I live in NW Ohio, flat land. Get 31+mpg. Use 5w30 oil.
40% city, 55% highway, 5% idle. Rarely a heavy foot, gas or brake. Oil companies say 3K miles, Manual says 5K miles. Use a Lucas Product in both the oil and the gas. How about putting in an Air Hog air filter? Much of a problem on this car to do that. Keep tires aired at 29psi.. Alignment and Balance kept up. Garaged at night,(unheated). Use Rain X on the windows. Car waxed 3 times a year. One Mature Driver,(trucker). Never had an accident. Don't scrape curbs. Any GOOD info will be appreciated. Happy Holidays to ALL!!!

Our tie rod end broke and the serpentine belt slipped off, but we were able to get the belt back on. Just wondered if it was okay to drive less than 10 miles to the repair shop or if I needed to have it towed. Thanks!

The sparkplug shot out of my 1988 Beretta. It has shot out before, so I just got a wrench and screwed it back in. Today it shot out and I cannot get it to screw back in at all. I am afraid that the grooves on the engine are stripped because other sparkplugs (new ones) will not work either. What can I do? As a last resort, my dad suggested we could use some type of cement and just permanently install the plug, as the car is old and has 140K miles.
