Maintenance & Repairs - November 2006

I recently changed out my oil pan after cracking it. Afterwards, I put 4 quarts of oil in, tried to start it up and it the engine wouldn't turn over. A friend of mine said you have to turn the key to "On" and let it sit for a while to let the oil pressure rebuild. Did that and still no results.

When I cracked my oil pan, I drove it about 1/2 a block with no oil at about 10 mph, then another 1/2 block with oil in it while the pan was still cracked. I'm hoping my engine did not seize. Any ideas or suggestions? It is a 1999.5 (mk4) VW Golf GTI with the VR6 engine (12v.)

At what temperature will urine freeze, do you have to have a certain ratio to antifreeze? Obviously this would only be done in an emergency. Would it be better to use urine or pour the beer directly in the radiator without drinking it first?

THE THUMB NUT GOES ON THE LINE FIRST.THEN YOU SLIDE THE PLASTIC RETAINER ON THE LINE,FOLLOWED BY 2 O-RINGS.I CAN NOT FIND A KIT ANYWHERE THAT HAS THESE PLASTIC LINE RETAINER CLIPS.THE ONLY DIFFERENCEIN KITS IS THE ONE I NEED HAS TO HAVE THAT LITTLE LINE RETAINER THAT FITS OVER THE END OF THE AIR LINE,WHERETHE STANDARD KIT JUST USES O-RINGS ON THE LINE.I WOULD THANK ANYONE WHO MIGHT HAVE AN ANSWER. I have changed the intake gasket, replaced the O rings on the injectors, and replaced spark plug wires with real good ones. I still have a misfire and the convor turns cherry red.

This is what happened:

1. While driving, I checked all my windows, so I opened all of them just to make sure they were working. But when tried the passenger side window, my car stereo shut off and back on again. Right?

2. When I arrived at my house, I took the key out of the ignition, and the inside of my vehicle made a weird sound or something. I'm not sure exactly, but it made me want to turn on my car to make sure everything is okay. Well, the car wouldn't start. AND I was like "Noooo! dead battery!" But as it turned out the alarm when off right after. I shut it off with the remote. And I tried it again, nothing happened. So I activated my alarm with my key, and sat in my car and tried to start it. Well, guess the car wouldn't start again and the alarm went off. So somehow, someway the alarm is now activated. And even when I hit the button to activate/deactivate it, it makes different sound. So it works, I don't know if the windows had something to do with it or what!

I FORGOT TO TURN THE SWITCH OFF IN THE TRUNK FOR THE AIR MODULE.IT WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NEVER CAME BACK UP.THE PUMP WORKS,THERE WAS NO LEAK.I CAN RAISE IT UP WITH AN AIR HOSE.BUT THE SWITCH CLICKS AND GOES BACK DOWN.HOW CAN I REDO THIS MESS?

I have a '93 Pathfinder w/ 148,000 miles on it. Today, I revved it higher than ever before, to the red line at 6,000 rpms. It seemed to not go any further than that, I think the rev limiter is right at 6,000 rpms. Is it safe for your engine to hit the rev limiter?

Why is it that most modern gasoline engines run at 190-220 when antifreeze is rated at close to 300 degrees? I have always heard that the more higher temp an engine runs the more power it gets, and the more complete the combustion cycle before prenotation or knocking temp kicks in which is quite high. I've had a car get that hot and cool it down still running that was above prenotation temp. Any answers?

I had a bad run in with Wal Mart a few years back and they told me that I needed to keep my recipt because they "deleted" their sales files from their computer ever so often. That's why I would like to know if i need my recipt to rotate my tires or do anything tire related at Wal Mart.

Toyota corolla 2000 - Low engine oil pressure light is on. If it doesnt go off imediately after I start, it stays there for a while ...I checked engine oil..its full .....what could be wrong.....manual says dont drive even a block when light is on... is it ok to drive 8 miles to take it mechanic....
