It doesn't even have to work, I just need the nose piece off the starter. Anyone know where I can get one? Unfortunately the "junk yards" around me don't seem to have one.. :-(

I purchased a re-built one and put it in, only to have the nose piece snap too.. then I realized something ELSE was wrong with the car.. (headgasket... OUCH!!) All is fixed now, and I have 2 starters with cracked noses... hence my question. I'm sure the new one still works, just needs a new nose piece...

I agree with the first three answers. Even if your starter is currently operational (with the exception of needing the nose-piece), it has wear and tear that a new or rebuilt one won't. You might replace the nose-piece only to have the whole thing die on you in a month and have to buy a new starter anyway. Personally, I would get a rebuilt one with a decent warranty from a parts store. They are cheaper than new, and I have never had a problem with one failing any sooner than a new one would.

Why dont you just save yourself the trouble and just replace the whole starter. You are not going to be able to find just the nose piece of a starter. You would be better off just replacing the whole thing.

Go to a local shop that rebuilds starters. They'll have that part.

However, I gotta say, that if you've already got that thing out then you might as well pay the extra $$$ and simply replace the entire thing.
