It depends which red warning light - there's one for the battery / charging circuit (picture of a battery) which indicates that the car is draining its battery, one for the brakes (exclamation mark) which probably indicates a low brake-fluid level but also illuminates when the handbrake is applied, and one for the engine coolant (picture of a thermometer) which indicates high coolant temperature.

Generally a green light is used to show something is working, orange for a warning (maybe a minor problem, maybe simply something on that you need to remember like rear demister or fog lamps) and red for a major, or safety-critical problem. If a red light comes on stop immediately it is safe to do so, and don't drive the car again until you know what caused the light to come on, and that the car is safe to drive.

Yellow warning lights are cautions or informational. Red warning lights warn of serious problems. It means you had best take it in and have them scan the error codes, because if you wait too long you have to call me to come tow it in to read the error codes.
