My Camaro has a bad fuel gauge; it reads about 1/8 tank fuller than it actually is. In other words, when it gets to about 1/8 tank it runs out of gas, and it fills up way over the full mark all the way to where the gauge bottoms out.

Is it possible to pop the needle off and move it to where it should be, then but it back on? Or is there another fix?

heres how the fuel guage works. in the tank, next to the fuel pump usually, there is a hinged float valve that hooked up to wires that convey a message to the fuel guage on the dash. as the fuel level rises and falls the float rises and falls on the hinge. when the tank is full the float rides at the top of the tank when empty at the bottom. and while i know this doesnt address your problem, yet, its good to know how these things work. it sounds to me like something is impeding the float. to fix this it requires dropping the fuel tank. and id rather not do anything with the guage itself. too many things can go wrong. id tell you to just remember about the guage, or to shell out the 5-6 hrs labor to fix

Moving the needle is the fast and easy way. The float in the tank may need adjusting. But it's more than likely the needle position.
Be careful when changing it.
