It blows air, but it's not hot, or even warm. Is this going to be expensive to fix? Or should I just freeze all winter long?

first things first, Check your antifreeze level

It may because your car is low on coolant,therefore not circulating thru the heater core.You also may need a new heater core if you see any visible leaks near it.Take it in to a reputable shop and get it checked out.

Your water valve is probably not turned on letting the water circulate into the heater core its a simple fix

If there is sediment in your coolant you could have a plugged heater core. If you are mechanically inclined, remove the heater core and soak it in CLR. Yes the same stuff you use in your bathroom to remove rust and scale.

does the temp gauge show normal op. temp. where you remember it being when you had heat? if the gauge shows the engine is cold it is most likely your thermostat
