I own an 83 Cutlass and yeah I know it's an old car but I'm working on it. Anyway one day I'm driving along and it's raining but my wipers don't work right so I have to use the mist thing to get them to work. Well it stops raining and my wipers are still going no big deal I wait 5 min and the are still going well I pull over and pull the fuse to see if that might stop it and guess what it doesn't. So when it rains I have to get under the dash and put the fuse back and when it stops pull it back out again. Can anyone please tell me what the hell I can do to fix this? Thanks.

The wiper motor has a switch in it that goes bad and can cause this. Also if you have delay wiper option there is a circuit that can cause that as well. Leaning towards the motor assembly more though from past experience.

This is a fairly common in gm cars around the time your car was new. Best advice is to replace the wiper motor with a new one or get one at a salvage yard. Make sure the salvage has some kind of resonable warranty an their parts.

We have a 93 suburban and trust me, it's a "GM" thing with those wipers!

You need a relay. I can't tell you where it's at on your car, but if you're working on it, you probably have a Haynes manual, etc.

Bang on the relay and see if that helps, it could be a dirty or corroded connection, or maybe you just need a new one.

The item that recieves the most wear and tear is the wiper switch. Replace it and you are set.
