I have a transmission slip or hestitation between 2nd and 3rd gear on my 89 nissan truck auto. It has been doing this for a year now but the condition hasn't gotten any better or worse. I checked the fluid several times and it was at the correct level. The fluid was cherry red in color and didn't smell burnt. When I wiped the fluid dipstick on a cloth it did leave a bit of black but the color iteself wasn't dark on the dipstick. Sometimes the slips are more pronounced that at other times. Sometimes I hardly feel anything at all. I only paid $800 for this vehicle and it has been running really good for the past year. Other than regular fluids, filters etc. I haven't spent a nickle on it. I'm just wondering if I a band or linkage adjustment will fix this problem or if I should just leave it alone. If I do have someone look at it will I get taken? I don't really want the transmission to fail by them putting in new, clean fluid which may cause it to slip more or fail completely. Advice?
