I bought a used 1992 Ford F150 truck that has glass packs on the exhaust system. I hate the loud noise these make. Can I have them removed? Does it cost much or take long to do this? What is involved?

It will cost you some bucks no matter if you go DIY(DO IT YOURSELF) or a shop. Another thing to find out is if the converters have been removed and if any of the emissions have been played with. IN MOST CASES, you will not need to go to Ford for help. Do not go to Midas either, both of them will stick you for sure. Find a local shop that has a good rep. Ask people you know where is a good shop to handle it. And as far as the cost. Mufflers in most cases start at around $20 and go from there. If you have a duel exhaust. Hang on. The good news is if the emissions system and the converters are in place. Some should be able to slip a muffler in place. Job length pending if it is just mufflers is 1hr to about 2hrs if you are lucky. IF bigger then that. Try 3-4 pending how good they person is doing the job.

Good god. They come right off. Their ONLY purpose is to make lots of noise.
I would guess this would cost you around $65 to $80 bucks at most dealers or shops....they are gonna stick you for the labor no matter what. However you will have to pay for a new muffler to be installed and this could run another $100 to $150.
If you have a friend who is handy with cars ask if they will do it for $30 and a case of beer or something.
