My Focus gets nailed every day with bird droppings where I park at work, I've tried other spots but our parking structure is downtown and we only have a few, otherwise I need to walk way too far and I need to be able to park near work for health reasons.

So who knows the top ways to protect the paint of my ride? and cheap because I wash her every other weekend and it's adding up.

Have a Nissan Altima which when braking, makes this loud whining noise then when I'm turning at the same time, it also makes a loud grinding noise. The noises only happen when I'm braking and turning.

There's no problem with braking or turning, other than the noises.

the white bomb benzo has some problems and age against it. for beginners, there's an oil leak. i'm not too worried about it, it's a slow leak, i only put a quart of oil in every 6-8 weeks.

that leak would cost a good 800-1000 to fix.

then, there is a transmission leak... requiring trans fluid nearly every two weeks. (also, is there ANY way to cheaply repair tranny leaks ???)

the car over heats, i'm guessing it's the compressor...

the car has just recently passed 200,000 miles.

i know that's bad, but the body of the car is beautiful. the paint is good and the interior is spotless so it's a tough car to ditch.

i live in los angeles, if any of you happen to be mechanics and wanna offer some suggestions or perhaps offer to fix my car in return i'll answer all your yahoo! questions.

I have a Mazda MPV and Mazda protege.
How often should the timing belts be replaced.
I have also read the water pump should be replaced at the same time. Is this true?

1995 Geo Prism, not in good shape, 112k miles. Started hearing a low squealing from under the hood that gradually grew louder over a few blocks. It was different and new from any of the other typical noises that come from the car, so I turned to head back home, and just after I did so the battery light came on and my power steering went out, and then the squealing became a very loud high-pitched squeal. I parked the car briefly and turned it off. After a few minutes, I started the car again, the power steering was back but the very loud high-pitched squeal continued as I made my way home. When I got home later that day, there was a puddle of something under the car. We've since started the car to move it in the driveway, and it still starts and still squeals. Any ideas? It's not worth it for us to fix it, but we're having a salvage company come out tomorrow and I want to know if it's totally junked or just needs a belt replaced, to get an idea of its value. Thanks in advance!

Okay I tried to jump start my car and still is not working. Radio works, I turn the key and it doesn't stay on. It shuts right off. We tried cleaning the battery and that didn't seem to work either. It never even turned on while we had the cars connected. I heard that cuz of the heat a lot of cars batteries are dying. My dad says he hasn't changed the battery in probably 3 years or so since we've got it. We got it as a used, Honda 94 Accord.
Then someone suggested it could be the spark plug. Any ideas?
I was told to just try to buy a new battery cause mine may not be holding a charge.

My budddy got a flat tire yesterday and he didn't have a donut so we had to leave it on the on the street because it was a Sunday and everything was already closed. Anyway my question is what would you do in this situation...would you have to go buy a donut or could you buy a single tire that fits your car and than just have it balanced and weighted at the mechanics later? He does not have AAA or anything so towing it would be really a last resort.

I know its probably difficult to diagnose this with out hearing out seeing my brakes but maybe someone can give me a heads up.

I had completely brand new brakes put on my truck almost two years ago. Recently “on occasion” they started making a squealing noise when I apply my brakes and sometimes when nothing is applied. Other days there is no noise. In the two years that I have had these brakes I haven’t traveled much and I never hard brake. I do have an appointment next week for someone to look at them. The last time I needed a complete new set it cost me 600 bucks. Does it sounds like I need new brakes or maybe just a cleaning? Also how much should I expect to pay for this?

This is a 1999 GMC Sierra with ABS brakes

I will be making 100+ miles each day on weekdays. While gas economy is important, security and at least a 4 door is a preferable since I've been driving a 2-door for a period of time now and we've had to rent cars when going camping, etc. I am thinking also to perhaps sell the car after a year as I'll have the chance to move closer to my destination, so I'm concerned about how much value of the car I can keep over the year despite the mileage.

Thank you for all the answers/recommendations.

I drive a 1992 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl. I wanna get a lil more power from it cuz right now it feels like driving a 7 passenger go-cart I dont plan on keeping the van any longer than I have to but I do wanna make it a little more powerfull while I have it what are some inexpensive things I can do to squeeze more power out of it ? I dont wanna spend a lotta money on it cuz like I said I dont really wanna have to drive this thing any longer than I have to plus I dont know how long the van will last so its pointless for me to put lots of money into the car If it might not last long

I don´t have any other problems with my car, the thing is that sometimes when I change from 2nd to 3rd gear, I end up going slower than before, and the car makes a noise that makes me think we are going to take off... any ideas??

It's turned off three times. Each when I've gone from a quicker speed to a stop (like braking on the highway). The electrical stuff does not shut down (A/C keeps working and radio etc). And when I shut it down and restart it it restarts fine and goes liek nothign is wrong. Anyone have an educated guess as to what the problem is and what it should cost to fix?

can I use a spark plug wire set that is labeled for one car on another? they are both 4 cylinder cars.
is there any difference between sets other than the length and type of connectors(like resistance)?
so If I can get it to fit, is it good to use? or will it hurt mileage/power/etc

thanks

The air conditioner in my car doesn't cool well, and I would like to repair it. Is it possible to repair it with cheap costs? What is the problem? Is it the "conditioning gas pipe"? What is it?

I appreciate your knowledge about this issue,, thanks in advance.
